Don’t look now, but the Chicago Cubs are starting to heat up. They have won eight of their last ten games, outsourcing their opponents 59-33. Run production has been an issue for Chicago all season, but their recent play shows that the lineup is finally figuring things out.
The Cubs will have Shota Imanaga (9-2, 3.06 ERA, 1.05 WHIP) making the start tonight. The 30-year-old rookie has been fantastic this season, ranking in the top twenty-five of the league in wins, ERA, and WHIP. The lefty is coming off a tremendous start where he allowed just two runs on two hits over seven innings.
The Guardians broke a seven-game losing streak over the weekend, but there is no denying that this team has cooled off. That is bad timing, considering that they will be facing Imanaga for the first time tonight. Only two teams have found success against the rookie the first time they faced him this season, showing just how difficult he is to figure out.
The Guardians will have Ben Lively (10-7, 3.59 ERA, 1.17 WHIP) starting opposite Imanaga. The veteran started the season strong, but his ERA has risen each month. He has a 4.91 ERA across two starts this month, and we think a hot Cubs lineup will raise that total tonight.

The combination of talented lineups and poor pitching is a sure-fire recipe for a high-scoring game, and that is what we have tonight. While both teams are struggling, their issues have mostly been on the mound as their lineups continue to produce. Considering the shaky pitching matchup we have on the mound, we expect that trend to continue tonight.
Tyler Mahle (0-1, 1.80 ERA, 1.20 WHIP) will be starting for the Rangers tonight. The 29-year-old made his season debut last week after missing over a year with an injury. He was impressive in his return, allowing just one run over five innings.
As good as Mahle looked last week, don’t count on that level of play continuing. The veteran will make his first road start since April of last year and his first-ever appearance at Fenway tonight. That will make things even more challenging tonight as he faces a Red Sox team that ranks second in batting average and fifth in runs scored.
Boston will have Bryan Bello (10-5, 5.16 ERA, 1.45 WHIP) on the mound tonight. The 25-year-old is having a rough season for the Sox and is coming off a brutal start where he allowed three runs over 4 ⅔ innings. He has been especially bad at home, posting a 5.71 ERA across ten starts.
The Rangers have disappointed at the plate this season, but Corey Seager (.274, 25 HR, 61 RBI) is doing a ton of damage lately. The shortstop has six home runs and 11 RBIs through nine games this month, posting an impressive .818 slugging percentage. Look for the star to go deep again against a struggling Bello tonight.
