Best MLB Bets Today: Cashing in on the Cubs’ Broken Bullpen
The Chicago Cubs have looked like one of the best teams in baseball this season, but a slew of injuries to the bullpen has made pitching a problem. We believe the problem will continue into their game today, so we're jumping on the Phillies today.
Below, we’ll share why we like the Phillies to win, along with two of our other favorite bets.

Philadelphia Phillies vs. Chicago Cubs (2:20 PM EST)
| Run Line | Spread | Moneyline | Total |
|---|---|---|---|
| Phillies | +1.5 (-190) | +115 | Over 8 (-115) |
| Cubs | -1.5 (+158) | -135 | Under 8 (-105) |
Phillies ML (+115) at Caesars Sportsbook
We like the Phillies to pick up a road win here, thanks mainly to the state of the Cubs’ bullpen. Three relievers are now on the IL, and Ryan Pressly is dealing with a knee issue that has his status up in the air. The Chicago bats have been able to cover for the battered and beaten pen, but it won’t be enough today.
Chicago’s bullpen will play a significant role this afternoon with Colin Rea (0-0, 1.32 ERA) starting on the mound. The 34-year-old joined the Cubs as a reliever, but is now working as a spot starter. He has looked very sharp, but has only lasted 10 ⅓ innings over three starts this month. That means he’ll be exiting today’s game early, giving the Phillies plenty of cracks at the bullpen.
Philadelphia will be sending Taijuan Walker (1-1, 2.29 ERA) out to the mound to start this game. The 32-year-old was rocked by the Giants two weeks ago, but has allowed just one run in his three other starts this season. The Cubs have beaten him up over the last couple of seasons, but this is a vastly improved version in 2025. He’ll deliver a quality start, allowing the Phillies to walk away with a win.

New York Mets vs. Washington Nationals (6:45 PM EST)
| Run Line | Spread | Moneyline | Total |
|---|---|---|---|
| Mets | -1.5 (-105) | -170 | Over 8.5 (-115) |
| Nationals | +1.5 (-115) | +143 | Under 8.5 (-105) |
Mets -1.5 (-105) at Caesars Sportsbook
The price isn’t great for a run line, but we have been banking on this red-hot Mets team lately. New York is riding a seven-game win streak after sweeping the Cardinals and Phillies. They’ll have a great chance to extend that streak tonight with Jake Irvin (2-0, 3.68 ERA) on the mound for Washington.
Irvin’s season numbers are impressive, but they don’t tell the whole story. The righty’s numbers are inflated by his ability to dominate bad lineups, including the Rockies and Pirates. That’s not what he’ll face tonight against a Mets team that has scored 4+ runs in six of their previous seven games.
Kodai Senga (3-1, 0.79 ERA) is a big reason why the Mets have turned things around in 2025. The Japanese star broke out in 2023, his first year in the MLB, but was limited to just one start by injury last season. We are seeing the same kind of domination we saw two years ago, and expect him to keep this pace up against a bad Nationals lineup.

Miami Marlins vs. Seattle Mariners (9:40 PM EST)
| Run Line | Spread | Moneyline | Total |
|---|---|---|---|
| Marlins | +1.5 (+100) | +215 | Over 7.5 (-105) |
| Mariners | -1.5 (-120) | -267 | Under 7.5 (-115) |
Mariners -1.5 (-120) at Caesars Sportsbook
This is one of the rare instances where we can confidently bet on the Mariners -1.5. That is primarily because of the pitching matchup.
The Mariners will have one of the top young pitchers in baseball on the mound in Logan Gilbert (1-1, 2.63 ERA). The righty has gone from promising prospect to ace over the last three seasons, and the Marlins will be seeing him for the first time. That will give the pitcher an edge, as well as home-field advantage. Miami won’t be able to overcome that, leading to a handful of hits and no more than one run.
The Mariners' lineup remains a problem, but they have been heating up of late. That gives us the confidence to back them against Cal Quantrill (1-2, 8.31 ERA) tonight. The veteran righty is having a brutal start to the season and is sporting a brutal 2.08 WHIP. Quantrill seems destined for a trip to the minors, and tonight’s ugly start could be what finally gets him sent down.
