Best MLB Bets Today: Have the Reds Found Another Ace in Andrew Abbott

Hunter Greene has been getting all the headlines as the Reds’ ace, but he isn’t the only young pitcher to dominate in 2025. Andrew Abbott has been just as good as the fellow 25-year-old, and he’ll have a chance to show it against a great Cubs lineup tonight. We’ll share our favorite bet for that game, as well as two others we are locking in.

The odds we use are taken from Caesars Sportsbook. If you’d like to try Caesars, use promo code WSNDYW to claim a “Bet $1, Get Ten 100% Profit Boost Tokens” offer.

Kansas City Royals vs. Minnesota Twins (2:10 PM EST)

Run Line Spread Moneyline Total
Royals +1.5 (-205) +110 Over 7.5 (-105)
Twins -1.5 (+170) -130 Under 7.5 (-115)

Royals ML (+110) at Caesars Sportsbook

While the Twins have been one of the hottest teams in baseball, they’ll be picking up a loss tonight. That’s because of the pitching matchup, which includes Minnesota starter Zebby Matthews (0-1, 12.00 ERA, 2.67 WHIP).

As his season stats show, the 25-year-old righty made his season debut last week and was hammered hard. While it’s just one start, his play reminded us of his struggles in 2024, when he posted a 6.69 ERA and 1.65 WHIP. Expect him to be hit hard again tonight against a Royals lineup that has been hot at the plate.

The Royals will have Michael Wacha (3-4, 2.86 ERA, 1.24 WHIP) starting opposite Matthews. The veteran has been lights out since April 10, with a 2.49 ERA. He’s allowed three runs over his last three starts, and we expect him to deliver another gem tonight.

Wacha faced the Twins a month ago and allowed two runs over 5 ⅓ innings en route to a 3-2 win for Kansas City.

Chicago Cubs vs. Cincinnati Reds (4:10 PM EST)

Run Line Spread Moneyline Total
Cubs -1.5 (+135) -115 Over 9 (-120)
Reds +1.5 (-160) -105 Under - (+100)

Under (+100) at Caesars Sportsbook

The Cubs have only of the best lineups in baseball, but they’ll be challenged by the Reds' pitching tonight. It’ll start with Andrew Abbott (3-0, 1.80 ERA, 1.11 WHIP), who has looked like a bona fide ace this season. The 25-year-old has been especially elite in May, allowing just one earned run over four starts (0.45).

Things won’t get any easier for Chicago when Abbott exits, as they’ll face a Reds’ bullpen that has been lights out lately. The Cubs’ hot bats will generate some runs, but not nearly enough to surpass Caesars’ total.

Chicago starter Colin Rea (3-0, 2.38 ERA, 1.20) has been one of the better back-end starters in the league over the last two years. He isn’t going deep into games, but the Cubs' bullpen has been surprisingly great despite being hammered by injuries. Expect them to combine to dominate a bad Cincinnati lineup tonight.

Seattle Mariners vs. Houston Astros (4:10 PM EST)

Run Line Spread Moneyline Total
Mariners -1.5 (+158) -110 Over 7.5 (+105)
Astros +1.5 (-190) -110 Under 7.5 (-125)

Mariners ML (-110) at Caesars Sportsbook

Astros’ ace Framber Valdez (3-4, 3.57 ERA, 1.13 WHIP) dominated the Mariners at the beginning of April, but will face a vastly improved lineup tonight. Julio Rodriguez has gotten into a groove in May, while catcher Cal Raleigh continues to play like an MVP candidate. They have led the Mariners to raise their league-worst OPS (.722) to be the eleventh-best in the league.

April’s strong start aside, Valdez hasn’t been great against Seattle over his career. The team owns a .282 average against the veteran, led by Jorge Polanco, who has a .480 average and 1.312 OPS over 25 at-bats.

Seattle will have a fantastic young pitcher on the mound tonight in Bryan Woo (5-1, 2.65 ERA, 0.87 WHIP). He is coming off two fantastic starts where he held the Padres and Yankees to just one run over 13 ⅓ innings. The Astros own a .160 average against Woo over 25 at-bats, which won’t improve tonight.
