Nobody has been hotter in the postseason than Adolis Garcia. The slugger owns a .357 batting average, eight home runs, and 22 RBIs. His ability to hit for such a high average has allowed him to flex his ridiculous power, leading to an MVP-worthy performance.
Garcia has a home run in five straight games, hitting six in that span. Last night’s 373-foot shot was his most impressive, handing the Rangers a win in the bottom of the eleventh inning. It was one of three hits that he had on the night; each drove in at least one run. The World Series is all about performing in high-pressure moments, which Garcia has had no problem doing in the postseason. We don’t know when it will come, but we are confidently betting on the right fielder to keep his streak going tonight.
Merrill Kelly had a good season for the D-Backs, giving the rotation three reliable arms. He has continued that success in the playoffs, with a 2.64 ERA over three starts. However, that number includes a brutal start in Game 2 of the NLCS. Kelly allowed four runs across 5 ⅔ innings, three of which came on home runs. He struggled under the pressure of a road NLCS start, and we think that happens again under the bright lights of the World Series.
A big reason for the Rangers’ postseason success is the play of rookie center fielder Evan Carter. The 21-year-old has a .311 batting average and has thrived as Texas’s number three hitter. He has been great over their last two games, with three doubles and three RBIs. That gives him nine RBIs on the season, and we think he will add to that streak tonight.
While he doesn’t hit for power, he doesn’t need to do much to drive in runs in this loaded lineup. Ahead of him are Marcus Semien and Corey Seager, who are both coming off incredible 2023 campaigns. Behind him is Adolis Garcia, who is the hottest hitter in baseball. That means he will see a lot of pitches to hit, and we see it leading to at least one RBI tonight.
Carter will face Merrill Kelly on the mound to start tonight’s game. The 35-year-old had a great season, but this will be his first World Series appearance. We saw him struggle in his first NLCS start against the Phillies, and we think a similar situation unfolds on baseball’s biggest stage tonight.
