Best MLB Prop Bets Today September 08 23

Wins and losses are everything to MLB teams right now, as so much of the league is still in postseason contention. But to baseball bettors, prop bets can be just as valuable as wins for their favorite teams at this stage of the year. These three MLB props are especially worth taking going into Friday night’s games.

Oakland Athletics vs Texas Rangers

My Pick: Jordan Montgomery to record the win (+115 at PointsBet)

First on our card of MLB prop bets for Friday is the AL West matchup between the Oakland Athletics and Texas Rangers. The Rangers are falling behind the Seattle Mariners and Houston Astros in the race for this division championship. But they should get a win over the A’s on Friday night, and Rangers starting pitcher Jordan Montgomery should be the one to claim the winning decision in this one.

Montgomery is just 8-10 this season, but his 3.46 ERA suggests that he is pitching well even if he is not collecting wins on his record. He takes on a pitcher in Paul Blackburn who has not been terrible either, but his statistical output has been slightly worse than that of Montgomery. We should see Montgomery exit this game with his team in the league, leaving it up to the bullpen to hold onto his win in the end.

Fortunately for the Rangers, they are playing an Oakland team that is just 19-50 on the road to this point in the season. This is just the matchup the Rangers need to get over their three-game sweep at the hands of the Houston Astros during the week. Look for Texas to let out their recent frustrations on the A’s en route to Montgomery’s ninth win of the year.

Seattle Mariners vs Tampa Bay Rays

My Pick: George Kirby over 17.5 outs recorded (-110 at DraftKings Sportsbook)

Next up, we go to St. Petersburg, as the Seattle Mariners visit the Tampa Bay Rays for the second game of a four-game series. Seattle won the first game of this series, beating Tampa Bay 1-0 in a pitcher’s duel on Thursday. In this game, we should see another starting pitcher have success against the Rays, as we like George Kirby to record at least 18 outs in this matchup.

Kirby has been one of the best-starting pitchers in the American League this season, even if Luis Castillo has been the best starter on the Mariners. Kirby is just 10-9 on the season, but he has a more than respectable 3.39 ERA for the year. He will keep rolling in this game against a Rays team that has scored a combined three runs over their last two games against the Mariners and Boston Red Sox.

Arizona Diamondbacks vs Chicago Cubs

My Pick: Zac Gallen over 5.5 hits allowed (-130 at DraftKings Sportsbook)

Last up on Friday’s MLB prop bet card is the huge Wild Card contest in the National League between the Arizona Diamondbacks and Chicago Cubs. Both of these teams are currently occupying two of the three NL Wild Card spots going into this weekend. On Friday, we are betting against Zac Gallen of the Diamondbacks, as we like him to allow at least six hits to the Cubs in Chicago.

Gallen is still in the mix to win the NL Cy Young award, but that is thanks almost entirely to his performances at home this year. He is 11-2 at home on the year, and is just 3-5 on the road. Here, he is on the road against one of the hottest teams in baseball, which will cause him more problems away from Chase Field.
