Braves vs Phillies Predictions

One of the biggest games of the day in Major League Baseball on Tuesday will take place in Philadelphia. There, the Philadelphia Phillies will host the Atlanta Braves in a significant matchup for both National League East teams. With playoff implications for both sides and with quality starting pitching on both sides, this game promises to be one of the more interesting tilts on Tuesday’s slate.

Atlanta Braves Predictions

The Atlanta Braves come into Tuesday with a 6.5-game lead over the Los Angeles Dodgers for the top spot in the National League. Sealing that spot up would mean home-field advantage throughout the National League Playoffs. Atlanta will look to move one step closer to accomplishing that with a win over the Phillies in this matchup on Tuesday evening.

Atlanta comes into this game with the best road record in the National League, posting a 47-25 record away from Truist Park this season. A big reason for that has been their offense, which ranks first in the league in runs scored by a wide margin. While the Braves will look to widen that gap as the top-scoring team in baseball this season, they also have a chance to get a great start from their starting pitcher in this contest, Max Fried.

Fried has been rock solid this season, posting a record of 7-1 with an ERA of 2.70 in his 66.2 innings of work on the season. He has not lost a start since returning from injury in the month of August, going 5-0 in his seven outings since then. If Fried can pitch at a similar level in tonight’s game against the Phillies, the Braves should be able to claim another victory on the road.

Philadelphia Phillies Predictions

The Philadelphia Phillies are a distant second to the Atlanta Braves in the NL East standings, but they are still in a position to make the playoffs. Philadelphia is currently in the top Wild Card spot in the National League, meaning that they have some room for error down the stretch as they try to make the playoffs. They will try not to have to use that room for error in this game, as they give the ball to Zack Wheeler to face the Braves.

Wheeler has had a solid season of his own in 2023, going 11-6 with a 3.49 ERA over his 170 innings on the mound. The Phillies will hope that Wheeler can avoid giving up the home run ball in this game, as he has allowed 16 so far this year, averaging a home run in just over every 10 innings he pitchers. But against the potent offense of the Braves, we could see them with greater frequency here.

Fortunately for the Phillies, they have the kind of offense that can make up for any fireworks generated by Atlanta’s lineup. Philly ranks eighth in the league in runs scored this season, and they have several players who can generate timely hits, including Bryce Harper and Kyle Schwarber, who has 43 home runs on the year. Look for this game to feature some scoring on both sides but for the Phillies’ lineup and ability to make clutch plays at home, to be the ultimate difference maker.
