Monday begins a new week and a new month. Unfortunately, Monday also has a limited MLB schedule, with many of this year’s top home run hitters getting the day off. As a result, we did our best to identify the hitters who are swinging a hot bat right now who also have favorable matchups that will help them hit a home run.

There are some fantastic home run props out there today, but some stand above the rest. Below are the players we’re locked in on.
Diaz has been one of MLB’s hottest hitters all season. He’s currently batting .310, which ranks sixth in the big leagues, while also hammering 11 home runs for the Rays. He’s also coming off a weekend in which he had four hits across three games against the Angels, with three of those hits being home runs.
On Monday, Diaz and the Rays have an interesting matchup against Detroit youngster Ty Madden, who is coming off a short stint on the IL after getting hit by a comebacker. Madden has given up just one home run in 11.1 innings this season, but he might be gunshy or a little rusty coming off the IL. Plus, Diaz has hit lefties and righties equally well this season, so he matches up well with just about anyone.

Soler is the one player we’ve targeted on Monday who isn’t swinging a hot bat at the moment. In fact, he’s batting just .212 on the season and only has one home run since May 5. In his defense, Soler has at least one hit in seven of his last eight games, although he has no extra-base hits or multi-hit games during that stretch.
Nevertheless, we’re targeting him on Monday because the Angels are facing Kyle Freeland, who has been dreadful this season. Freeland owns an 8.08 ERA and gave up 10 home runs in just 21.2 innings in May, allowing multiple home runs in four of his last five starts. All but one of those home runs were hit by a right-handed hitter, and with Soler being 5 for 16 with a home run in his career against Freeland, he has excellent value.

Freeman and the Dodgers have a tough matchup against Eduardo Rodriguez on Monday. The southpaw pitched to a 1.60 ERA across his five starts in May, lowering his season ERA to 2.31. On the other hand, he’s always struggled against Freeman, who is 10 for 17 (.588) with three doubles and a home run in his career against Rodriguez.
Needless to say, it’s hard to ignore Freeman’s past success against Rodriguez. But we’re also catching Freeman in the midst of a six-game hitting streak. In those six games, he has two multi-hit games and two home runs, giving him eight on the season. Between his current hitting streak and his success against Rodriguez, this is the perfect time to target Freeman.

Before going 0 for 5 on Sunday, Rodriguez was hitting everything. He had a six-game hitting streak that included three multi-hit games and four home runs. A month ago, Rodriguez had just two home runs, but he finished May with 12 home runs on the season, so despite Sunday’s hitless games, he enters June red-hot and playing for a team that’s won six in a row.
The only caveat is that the Mets are planning a bullpen game for Monday night in Seattle. Rodriguez is likely to face several different pitchers, many of whom he hasn’t seen before or has limited at-bats against in his career. But with four home runs in his last seven games, it might not matter who’s pitching; it’s worth taking a chance on Rodriguez to go deep on Monday.
