Mets vs Dodgers Predictions
New York Mets Predictions
Despite their struggles against Kershaw last night, this Mets (11-7) team is playing as well as anyone in baseball. They were slow to start but now find themselves in the thick of the AL East race. They struggled against Clayton Kershaw last night, but Syndergaard should give them an excellent opportunity to bounce back today. These bats have been hot, and I see that continuing this afternoon.
The Mets own one of the best lineups in baseball, led by first baseman Pete Alonso. The slugger leads the league with eight home runs with 15 RBIs. He’s been dialed in and owns a decent average so far. Alonso felt right at home in Dodger Stadium last season, posting a .273 average with three home runs and seven RBIs. He was held hitless last night, but he does have ten hits in his previous six games.
Alonso isn’t the only Met on a hot streak, as Francisco Lindor has raised his batting average by 40 points coming into the series but is just 1-8 in the series so far. Expect to see him snap a bat for a nice game against Syndergaard today.
The Mets will have former-Dodger Max Scherzer (2-1, 4.41 ERA) on the mound tonight. He struggled in his first two starts but threw five shutout innings against the Padres last week. It’s clear that he hasn’t looked himself so far, but last week’s win against the Padres showed he can still dominate a game. Today is Scherzer’s first dominant win of the season as he looks to keep the Met's winning ways return.
Los Angeles Dodgers Predictions
The Dodgers (9-9) got their record back to .500 by shutting out the Mets last night. They rode a fantastic start from Clayton Kershaw to cruise to a 5-0 victory. LA has had no shortage of power this season, ranking second in the MLB in home runs (30) and third in RBIs (90). Unfortunately, that hasn’t translated into wins, as they have lost seven of their last eleven games.
The Dodgers' lineup is loaded with power, but they have struggled to generate consistent offense. Max Muncy leads the team in home runs (7) and RBIs (7), but he owns a batting average of .228. Freddie Freeman has been their most reliable bat, with a .324 average. He hasn’t found his power stroke yet, but his consistent hitting is a huge boost for this team.
The biggest question for the Dodgers will be Mookie Betts. The star was out on paternity leave but may be set to return today. Betts has struggled, with a .266 batting average to go with two home runs and six RBIs. We all know what he can do when in top form, but I don’t see that happening immediately after having a baby.
The Dodgers will have former Mets ace Noah Syndergaard (0-2, 5.63 ERA) on the mound tonight. He’ll be facing his former team for the first time since he left in 2021. Syndergaard is attempting to play his first full season since 2019. While a poor showing against the Diamondbacks boosted his ERA to 5.63, the veteran pitcher has registered quality starts in his other two appearances. Now, he’ll face one of the top lineups in the country.
