Padres vs Giants Predictions

It has been a demoralizing last few days for the San Diego Padres, as Oracle Park in San Francisco has become their own personal house of horrors. The Padres have lost three games in a row in San Francisco going into the series finale between the Padres and Giants on Thursday afternoon. San Diego comes into Thursday’s game as a slight favorite, but there is no telling what to expect in this contest given how wild the last few days have been.

San Diego Padres Predictions

The San Diego Padres will feel like they should have won at least two of the first three games of this series against the San Francisco Giants. They took the lead in each of the first two games of the series, only to have their bullpen blow things in spectacular fashion. On Thursday, the Padres will hope to take a lead against the Giants once again, only they hope to hold onto it this time to salvage a game from this series.

Blake Snell will be the pitcher tasked with getting the Padres off to a good start in this matchup. Snell enters this game with a 3-6 record, but his 3.48 ERA suggests that he is better than his record shows. Snell has been better away from home than he has been at Petco Park on the year, and the Padres will hope that trend continues to help them get out of San Francisco with a win.

No matter how Snell pitches on Thursday, the offense of the Padres is going to need to better in this game than it has been over the first three games of this series. San Diego has been held to just nine runs over the first three games of the series, for an average of three runs per game. That has clearly not been good enough so far this series, and the Padres need to get more out of their star-studded lineup here.

San Francisco Giants Predictions

The San Francisco Giants have moved into second place in the NL West, leaping ahead of the Los Angeles Dodgers for that spot. Their three straight wins over the San Diego Padres have helped them to accomplish that feat, as the Giants have won 10 straight games coming into Thursday afternoon. Now just 2.5 games behind the first-place Arizona Diamondbacks, the Giants aim to extend their winning streak and put pressure on the leaders of their division by completing a sweep of the Padres on Thursday.

Alex Wood is on the mound to start this game for the Giants, as he enters with a 2-1 record and an ERA of 4.11. Despite his lack of decisions throughout this season, as he has only been tagged with the win or loss three times in nine starts, Wood has put the Giants in winning positions more often than not. The Giants have won six of the nine games he has started this season, which bodes well for them coming into this matchup.

Also boding well for the Giants is the fact that they have had their way with the Padres bullpen in this series. San Francisco came back from two runs down in the bottom of the ninth to win in 10 innings in the opening game of this series, and they staged another comeback in the second game of this four-game set. Even if the Giants fall behind in this game, they simply cannot be counted out with the way they are hitting in clutch situations.
