New England Revolution vs Orlando City Prediction

New England Revolution vs Orlando City Predictions

The New England Revolution must have heaved a huge sigh of relief last weekend after picking up their first win in the MLS after the first weekend of May. Four out of their last six games were away from home, and they failed to win any of them. They lost two of those games against Inter Miami and Philadelphia Union and drew the other two against Atlanta United and New York City FC.

Meanwhile, Orlando City are gaining momentum and have not lost any of their last six MLS matches. However, they have only managed to win three of those, while the other three ended in draws. These stalemates came against Columbus Crew, New York City FC, and Atlanta United. The visitors have won three out of the last four games, defeating teams like Inter Miami, New York Red Bulls, and Colorado Rapids.

The odds heavily favor the New England Revolution, but they cannot underestimate the potential Orlando City hold, especially in a situation where the visitors possess the better recent record. However, the New England Revolution have other advantageous stats to back them.

Previous Meetings

One of the stats that back the New England Revolution for the win in this encounter comes in the head-to-head aspect. In 16 encounters between the two sides, Orlando City have won just twice. Meanwhile, the New England Revolution have won seven games.

The remaining seven have ended in draws, one of which came in last season’s fixture at the Gillette Stadium. Carles Gil had broken the deadlock in the 22nd minute before Robin Jansson restored parity 13 minutes later. The score remained unchanged till the final whistle.

The Gillette Stadium has been a nightmare of a place to visit for Orlando City. Their two wins against the New England Revolution have both come in home games. The club’s last win over New England Revolution came in 2017 when they walloped the visitors 6-1.

After that, they played nine games in the MLS against the New England Revolution and won none of them. The hosts have won five of the seven matches played between these two at this venue, while the other two have ended in draws.

Much-Needed Lift for New England After Ending Streak

A five-match winless streak that started with a 2-1 loss against Inter Miami in May ended in the reverse fixture with a 3-1 win last weekend. During this abysmal run, New England Revolution also crashed out of the US Open Cup.

The loss against Inter Miami was avenged with a stellar 3-1 win at home against the same side. Carles Gil scored his third goal in as many games to break the deadlock. Matt Polster doubled their lead before Bobby Wood made it three.

Josef Martinez pulled one back from the spot but it was nothing more than a consolation. The win comes at a crucial time for New England Revolution because they are ten points off the top of the table and will be looking to reduce that deficit over the next few weeks.

New England Revolution Have a Prolific Record Against Orlando City

The 6-1 humbling of the New England Revolution at the hands of Orlando City in 2017 could have seemed to be an unforgettable nightmare for the hosts. However, they have been absolutely menacing in this fixture ever since then.

In the last nine matches against Orlando City, New England Revolution have won five, and the other four have ended in draws. The visitor’s search for a win over their nemesis continues and is likely to continue even after this match.

The Hosts Are Yet to Lose a Home Game This Season

So far this season, the New England Revolution have played eight games at home. They have won five of those and drawn the other three. In addition, the club is only a couple of home wins away from leveling their win tally at home last season.

In those eight games, the New England Revolution have scored 18 goals and conceded seven. While the goalscoring aspect is functioning well with the team scoring a little over two goals per match, the defense needs a little bit of work and concede fewer goals.

Orlando City Eager to Retain The Best Away Record

While possessing a strong home record can be expected from many teams across the league, few contenders can maintain a perfect balance between their home and away form. Orlando City is one such contender, leading the away table of the MLS.

In nine home games, Orlando City have picked up 12 points. However, in seven away games, the side have earned 14 points. Across both the divisions, Orlando City have the best away form in the MLS this season so far.

They have won four, drawn two, and lost just one game on the road this season. That one loss came against CF Montreal over a month ago. After that, the club held Columbus to a 2-2 draw and beat Inter Miami and New York Red Bulls in their respective backyards.

The Unbeaten Streak Is at Stake

Orlando City have successfully managed to dodge defeat in the last six MLS games. However, they have not picked up the maximum available points during half of these games. During this six-game unbeaten run, Orlando City have won three and drawn three.

The draws came against Columbus Crew, New York City FC, and most recently, against Atlanta United. Meanwhile, all three points were secured against Inter Miami, New York Red Bulls, and Colorado Rapids. Orlando City have also kept a clean sheet in the last two games.

Tricky Triple Threat in the Next Three Games

After securing many positive results, the game against New England Revolution will mark the start of a short tricky fixture run for Orlando City. After facing the New England Revolution this Saturday, Orlando City will return home to host the Philadelphia Union.

The 2022 MLS runners-up have gathered a lot of momentum and could capitalize on Orlando City’s poor home record unless the hosts can devise the perfect tactics. After that fixture, Orlando City will travel to take on Seattle Sounders – another tough team.
