NY Red Bulls vs Atlanta United Prediction

New York Red Bulls have won seven of their 12 meetings with Atlanta United in the MLS. They have lost just once to The Five Stripes, and that was in 2018. Atlanta United have visited the Red Bull Arena five times in MLS history and have never managed to win a game. They are yet to score in any of their visits and have picked up just two points there.

The last two meetings between these two sides, both taking place last season, have ended in a goalless draw. Most matches between them have seen fewer than two goals per game, with just four matches having over three goals.

The most thrilling encounter so far was the 3-3 draw back in 2019. Justin Meram handed Atlanta the lead in the 10th minute, but Daniel Royer made it 1-1 before halftime. The second half saw both teams take the lead, and a dramatic end with two goals in injury time.

A Thriller Last Time

Brian White scored at the hour mark to hand New York the lead, and Atlanta needed a penalty from Josef Martínez to get level with 10 minutes left. The striker scored his second of the game in the 91st minute and that seemed like the winner.

However, Bradley Wright-Phillips scored two minutes later to level things up and help New York Red Bulls leave with a point.

Twenty-five percent of the meetings between Red Bull and Atlanta have ended in a goalless draw, but that is unlikely this week as both sides will be going for the win as they need points to move up the table.

Take a look at the predictions for MLS 2022 Outright Winner, here!

New York Red Bulls Are on a Volatile Run

The New York Red Bulls are 8th in the league table right now but not in the best of form. They have picked up just six points from their last five matches and are struggling. After a winless pre-season, NYRB started their MLS season with two wins. They defeated the San Jose Earthquakes and Toronto FC away from home with ease, but lost their first home game of the season.

Minnesota United edged out a 1-0 win, and Columbus Crew managed to leave Red Bull Arena with a point. They did well once again away from home and picked up a 1-0 win at New England Revolution. They lost their home game once again when they met CF Montreal and followed it up with a 0-0 draw against FC Dallas. That draw began their six-match unbeaten run, but that run consisted of four draws and just two wins.

Patchy Form

In the last five MLS games, New York Red Bulls have three losses and two wins. The poor run of form started with a loss to Inter Minmi CF. Ariel Lassiter and Robert Taylor scored for Phil Neville’s side, and the Red Bulls had no response, losing the game 2-0.

They bounced back with a 4-1 win over DC United and in fine fashion. They dominated possession, conceded just one goal from the only shot the side from the capital managed on target, and made the most of their chances in the second half.

But they could not keep that up in the next match and ended up losing 2-0 to Charlotte FC. NYRB managed just one shot on target and had just 39 percent of the ball as they ended up losing 2-0 thanks to goals from Derrick Jones and Benjamin Bender in injury time of both halves.

Unable to String Two Wins Together

The sinusoidal form continued as they went from losing 2-0 to winning by the same margin in the next match. NYRB were up against Toronto FC and picked up all three points after beating them 2-0. Lewis Morgan and Luquinhas scored in either half to help them get the win.

Once again, they could not do much to get two wins in a row and lost their next game. Table-topper LAFC were made to struggle, but NYRB ended up losing 2-0 after quickfire goals from Cristian Arango and Diego Palacios in the second half.

Injuries and Suspensions

Wikelman Carmona, Andres Reyes, and Lucas Monzon are ruled out.

Atlanta United Are Back at the Ground Where They Have Never Picked up a Win

Atlanta United had a brilliant pre-season and won four of their five matches. They were dominant in all wins and had lost just once, making the fans confident about the upcoming season.

Their start to the season was also a decent one, as they won against Sporting Kansas City in the opening weekend. Luiz Araújo, Dom Dwyer and Caleb Wiley scored the goals as they registered a 3-1 win. They could not replicate the same form in their first away game and ended up losing 3-0. They did manage to do well at home again and defeated Charlotte FC in the next match, before drawing 3-3 with CF Montreal and beating FC Dallas away from home.

While the first five games of the season saw them picking up ten points, the next ten have seen them get just nine. Their poor form started with a loss to Charlotte FC, away from home. They drew with FC Cincinnati next and then lost to Inter Miami and CF Montreal.

Struggling for Consistency

They ended their winless streak by beating bottom-placed Chicago Fire 4-1. Ronaldo Cisneros scored a hat-trick, while Brooks Lennon added the icing on the cake with a late goal in the game.

However, the win did not see them get back to form, as they were knocked out of the US Open Cup in the next match. Nashville SC defeated them 3-2 and the loss saw the heads drop and form get worse. They drew to New England Revolution and Nashville SC in the league next and were then beaten by Columbus Crew.

The international break came at the right time for them as they managed to give the players and free their minds. They played a friendly against Pachuca and picked up a 3-2 win over the Liga MX side. Back in the MLS after a short break, Atlanta managed to do well against Inter Miami and win 2-0. Luiz Araújo and Josef Martínez scored in either half to help them get the much needed win and boost their confidence.

However, they could not keep the momentum going and lost to Toronto FC last weekend. Jonathan Osorio and Ralph Priso scored for the Canadian side as Luiz Araújo got on the scoresheet for Atlanta United.

Brooks Lennon, Osvaldo Alonso, Dylan Castanheira, Brad Guzan, and Miles Robinson are ruled out.
