Philadelphia Union vs FC Dallas Prediction

Philadelphia Union vs FC Dallas Predictions

In the last five MLS games, Philadelphia Union have managed to snatch just one win. However, they have lost just one game and are unbeaten in the last four with a win and three consecutive draws. The solitary loss came against FC Toronto at the end of August.

FC Dallas share a similar record, as the club is unbeaten in the last four games. Even their previous MLS loss came at the end of August against St. Louis City SC. After that, that club has drawn three and won one in four matches.

The bookmakers have picked the hosts to win this encounter. Philadelphia Union must be frustrated with the series of draws and will be desperate to find a positive result that helps them clinch all three points this Wednesday.

Previous Meetings

Since 2010, these two clubs have collided in this inter-conference fixture on 13 occasions in the MLS. FC Dallas have a formidable record in this encounter as the club has nabbed eight wins, while Philadelphia Union have only won twice. Only three games have ended in draws.

The last two encounters between these two teams came in the 2022 and 2020 MLS seasons. FC Dallas reigned supreme in both games, winning with a clean sheet. The last time the Union hosted FC Dallas was in 2019. The hosts won that game 2-1.

FC Dallas’ last win in Philadelphia Union’s backyard came in the 2015 MLS season. Goals from Tesho Akindele and Ryan Hollingshead helped the visitors nab a 2-0 win over the hosts who were reduced to ten men after Zach Pfeffer’s dismissal in the first half.

Philadelphia Union Expected to Come Out All Guns Blazing

Despite dodging defeat against tricky opponents over the last three league games, Philadelphia Union could be frustrated. They failed to move back into second place because of the three consecutive draws but still have a chance to move up with a win against FC Dallas.

The attacking line will be desperate to get some goalmouth action in the upcoming match after a frustrating goalless draw in the last game against the defending champions Los Angeles FC. In that cagey encounter, neither side got a shot on target.

Wingback Continues to Wreak Havoc Down the Left Flank

The attacking prowess of Philadelphia Union’s left-wingback Kai Wagner has been quite evident this season. The German has notched five assists and scored a goal in 24 appearances.

In the match against Los Angeles FC, the 26-year-old’s defensive prowess was on display. Wagner was the best player on the pitch, with the most tackles and winning the most duels.

The Hosts Are Maintaining a Strong Record at Home

Philadelphia Union have stuttered quite a few times in the league this season, but most of their mistakes have come on the road as they have been quite robust at Subaru Park.

In 14 home games in the league so far this season, the Union have won nine, drawn four, and lost just one game. That loss came against Orlando City six months ago.

FC Dallas Will Be Confident After Ending Dismal Streak

On their last away trip, FC Dallas sneaked three past Real Salt Lake to end a painful seven-game winless streak away from home in the MLS. Before clinching all three points against Real Salt Lake, FC Dallas lost five and drew two of their previous seven games on the road.

However, the club failed to build on the winning momentum and dropped points at home this past weekend against Columbus Crew. Still, the spirits will be high when they visit Subaru Park in search of points that could help the visitors consolidate their position in the playoff spots.

Striker in Fine Form Ahead of Crucial Encounter

Jesus Fereira has been a pivotal player for FC Dallas this season. In the last eight games across all competitions, the 22-year-old has provided five assists and scored three goals.

The striker’s goal tally in the MLS stands at 12 in 22 matches. In the side’s last away game that came against Real Salt Lake, Fereira bagged a brace.

New Midfielder Has to Control Tempo

Earlier this month, FC Dallas secured the free transfer of former Real Madrid midfielder, Asier Illarramendi. The Spaniard has made four appearances since his arrival and has played well.

The 33-year-old had a quiet game against Columbus Crew in the last match but will be looking to control the midfield and the pace of the game in the next one.
