NC State vs. Duke Prediction: ACC Tournament Action Continues

Day three of the ACC Tournament is when the action starts to become interesting. The top teams will see their first action of the tournament on Thursday, and this is the case for the second-seeded Duke Blue Devils.

Duke will face NC State in the ACC Tournament quarterfinal. While the Blue Devils come into this game rested, they don’t have the same momentum as their counterpart. The Wolfpack dominated Syracuse on Wednesday 83-65 to advance to the quarterfinals.

Duke was dominated at home to conclude the regular season by North Carolina. While there is no shame in losing to the Tar Heels, this wasn’t the way Duke wanted to build momentum heading into tournament play. Yet, they did beat NC State in their lone meeting this season 79-64.

Here, we will preview the ACC Tournament quarterfinal and give our best bets for the contest.

NC State vs. Duke Preview

NC State surprisingly was on cruise control against Syracuse on Wednesday. The Wolfpack were listed as a slight underdog and the line kept moving toward the Orange. However, they were firing on all cylinders and it resulted in an easy win.

The first half was tight, but they outscored Syracuse 48-33 in the second half to earn the win. The Wolfpack weren’t overly efficient from the field. Shooting just 42.4%, but they were seven of 20 from three-point range.

It felt like they couldn’t miss in the second half, and they will need this same spark against Duke to have a chance of winning. Jayden Taylor was the star for the Wolfpack, scoring 18 points with nine rebounds.

NC State is now 19-14 and 9-11 in the ACC and must be flawless against Duke. NC State is 125th in the nation in points per game at 76.3. They can win with offense when they get hot, but their defense has left them behind throughout the season.

They’re allowing nearly 73 points per game, which is 207th in America. To combat their defensive flaws, they need big performances from their star players. The one to watch for the Wolfpack is Casey Morsell.

Morsell is one of four players for NC State averaging over 10 points per game. Morsell, along with Taylor, DJ Burns, and DJ Horne must set the tempo from the beginning of this game because Duke can score.

The Blue Devils should be angry coming into this contest after their loss at Cameron Indoor Stadium to North Carolina. They had a chance at sharing the ACC regular season title but came up short and were never in the game.

They trailed 17-4 five minutes into the game, and never clawed back into the game. They were dominated on the glass and allowed the Tar Heels to shoot over 50% from the field.

The one positive was that Kyle Filipowski looked strong once again. He dropped 23 points and had seven rebounds despite his team coming up short.

Duke is scoring 80.2 points per game, and they allow just 67.2 points on defense. They have big advantages in both these numbers, and we expect it to show in the ACC Tournament quarterfinal.

Outside of Filipowski, look for Jeremy Roach to be one of the leaders. The experienced guard has been in high-pressure situations for years, and always responds after losses. He is scoring 14.3 points per game with 3.2 assists.

Duke shoots nearly 50% from the field as a team and 38% from beyond the arc. If they have their standard night, NC State will have to be flawless to pull off the victory.

NC State Wolfpack vs. Duke Blue Devils Prediction and Betting Pick

NC State has some momentum following their win over Syracuse. However, we expect this to come to an end against Duke.

The Blue Devils have dominated nearly every team in their path this season and covered this line with ease earlier against NC State in the first meeting

Outside of the loss to North Carolina, Duke has been strong to end the season. Lay the points with the Blue Devils.
