My -125 Pick for Bournemouth vs. Manchester City

Back Manchester City to beat Bournemouth. This will not be an easy game for Pep Guardiola’s side, but they should get over the line to keep their Premier League title hopes alive.

Manchester City Aim to Send Title Race to Final Day of Season

At the time of writing, Arsenal and Manchester City each have two games left to play in this enthralling Premier League season, and the former lead the latter by two points. But on Monday, Arsenal have the chance to pull five points clear while City watch on. A home game against relegated Burnley is one of the kindest assignments in the division. Arsenal are heavy favorites.

Assuming Mikel Arteta's men get the job done at the Emirates Stadium, it would leave City with no margin for error. To have a chance of winning the title, Pep Guardiola’s men would need to beat both Bournemouth and Aston Villa, and hope Crystal Palace deny Arsenal victory on Sunday. In other words, if the Gunners beat Burnley and City fail to defeat Bournemouth, the title race is over.

The stakes are high. City have done well to get themselves back in the conversation over the past few months, but they will still be kicking themselves over that 3-3 draw with Everton at the start of the month. It is the only blemish on City's record in their last nine games in all competitions, and it could cost them dearly.

City warmed up for Tuesday’s tussle with Bournemouth by adding another trophy to their cabinet. Antoine Semenyo scored the only goal of the game to give them a 1-0 victory over Chelsea in the FA Cup final on Saturday. City have now won both domestic cups, but the Premier League title is the prize they crave most.

There has been much talk of Guardiola's future in recent days. Although he has regularly pointed out that his contract runs until 2027, the City boss has stopped short of confirming he will still be at the club next season. For now, he and his players are fully focused on doing all they can to beat Arsenal to top spot.

Bournemouth Have Own Goals to Fight for With Two Games Left

There is no doubt that Manchester City have a trickier fixture than Arsenal in the penultimate round of fixtures. Burnley are already relegated and have really struggled since the beginning of the campaign. Bournemouth, on the other hand, have been one of the stories of the season. And unlike Burnley, they still have something to fight for.

Indeed, there is still a chance that Bournemouth could qualify for the Champions League. They have two routes into Europe’s premier competition. The first is via a top-five finish in the Premier League. Bournemouth are sixth at present, but they would climb up a spot by winning their last two games, as long as Liverpool fail to beat Brentford on Sunday.

Alternatively, sixth could be enough for Champions League qualification, but only if Aston Villa finish fifth. That is certainly possible, but it would require Liverpool beating Brentford at the weekend and Villa losing to Manchester City.

Both things are possible, but Bournemouth are not guaranteed sixth themselves. In order to hold off the teams behind them like Brighton & Hove Albion and Brentford, the Cherries need to win one of their remaining two matches. That means Bournemouth also have a strong incentive to go for victory on Tuesday. Success would, at the very least, earn them a spot in the Europa League.

Qualifying for continental competition would be a fantastic achievement for a club of Bournemouth’s size, but Andoni Iraola will not be there to see it. The Spaniard has already confirmed his departure, with Marco Rose appointed as his replacement. This will be Iraola’s last home game in charge of Bournemouth, giving them another reason to go all out for a win.

Arsenal Watching on but Manchester City Can Disappoint Them

Arsenal will be watching events at the Vitality Stadium closely. The champagne will be on ice, since a favor from Bournemouth would make Arteta’s team uncatchable at the summit of the standings. Equally, fans of Liverpool, Brighton and Brentford will have an interest in this match as they all attempt to finish above Bournemouth.

It is easy enough to make a case for the Cherries getting something. They are on a 16-game unbeaten streak, having not lost since January. Not even Arsenal or Manchester City have gone that long without tasting defeat. It is a brilliant achievement by Iraola and his players.

Bournemouth’s counter-pressing style could have some success against City’s possession-based game. They are well suited to playing teams like Guardiola’s, who build from the back and often defend one versus one.

Having said all that, we ultimately expect City to come out on top. It will not be easy and there is unlikely to be much separating the two teams. But City have been excellent for weeks now and they will be desperate to take the title fight to the final day.

Guardiola has several game-changing options available to him on the bench, so if plan A is not working there are plenty of top-class alternatives waiting in the wings. Bournemouth have been magnificent in 2025/26, but their final home game of the campaign will probably end in defeat. Go for a Manchester City victory in this one.
