My -144 Pick for West Ham United vs. Arsenal

Arsenal are clear favorites to win this encounter and we expect them to come out on top, but both teams to score is our preferred selection at the London Stadium.

Arsenal Would Have Settled for This Position Last Summer

Arsenal really needed that. It has been a testing few weeks for the Gunners, who have exited the FA Cup and the EFL Cup, and seen Manchester City drag themselves back into the Premier League title race. The Gunners have still won games in that time, but they have not always been entirely convincing. Until last weekend, that is.

Arsenal’s 3-0 victory over Fulham was perhaps their best performance of the calendar year. Their opponents were not in their best possible condition after a virus had swept the camp in the days leading up to the game, but it was nevertheless hard to not be impressed by Arsenal’s relentlessness at the Emirates Stadium. They stormed into a 3-0 lead in an opening period in which Fulham struggled to get out of their own half.

“It was a critical game because we know the importance of the win and the manner in which we've done it, the whole difference in the Premier League and because this game was going to carry a lot of energy towards the next game, and it'l is certainly going to do that,” Mikel Arteta said afterwards.

“There was a certain connection in the team that I had a feeling that it was going to provoke that. You have to be really neat and those connections happened because we had some freshness as well, which individually if you want to see those actions, you need it in your legs to deliver them constantly and to see the things that we saw today.”

The state of play is this: Arsenal lead Manchester City by five points, but Pep Guardiola’s side have a game in hand. Arsenal have the edge on goal difference as things stand, so they are clear favorites for the title after City’s slip-up against Everton on Monday. But City play first that weekend, so they have the chance to close the gap before Arsenal are next in action.

West Ham United New Relegation Favorites After Brentford Loss

Last weekend was a bad one for West Ham United. The momentum had been with them in the relegation battle, but Tottenham Hotspur have stolen it away from their London rivals after back-to-back victories over Wolverhampton Wanderers and Aston Villa. Unfortunately for West Ham, their results have dipped as soon as Tottenham’s have rebounded.

A 3-0 defeat by Brentford last time out was a real blow. The Bees are having a fine season and are one of the teams in the mix for European qualification, but they had been in mediocre form ahead of last Saturday’s contest at the Gtech Community Stadium. The manner of the defeat as much as the scoreline itself would have frustrated Nuno Espirito Santo.

West Ham are now favorites for the drop again. Heading into the weekend, they are a point below the dreaded dotted line. Needless to say, a game against Arsenal is tougher than they would have wanted. The danger is that a defeat here and a Tottenham victory over Leeds United on Monday would leave the Hammers four points adrift of safety with two games left to play.

Some West Ham fans were frustrated by Aston Villa’s decision to name a second-string side against Spurs last time out. But the Hammers encountered a similar scenario against Crystal Palace last month, and could only manage a 0-0 draw at Selhurst Park. West Ham should only look at themselves for being in this position after 35 matches.

“It is up to us how we will react from the situation and the noise,” Nuno said after watching his team’s 3-0 loss to Brentford. “Let's stick together. We have three games to go. It will go down to the wire, the last game.”

A Game Which Could Have Implications at Both Ends of Table

It is crunch time in the Premier League season and this match could have significant implications at both ends of the table. Indeed, it is a game which does not interest only West Ham United and Arsenal fans, but also those who follow Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester City.

Arsenal were in Champions League action against Atletico Madrid in midweek, whereas West Ham have had eight days to prepare for this London derby. However, Arsenal’s superior quality across the board makes them obvious favorites to triumph on Sunday. There is a reason why they are top of the table and West Ham are third from bottom.

Our suggested bet, though, is both teams to score. Nuno’s men were poor away to Brentford last time out, but there is no doubt that West Ham have become a more effective attacking force in 2026. They have scored in seven of their last eight home games in the Premier League, including against Manchester City.

Arsenal have the best defensive record in the division, and they successfully shut out Newcastle United and Fulham in recent home games. But they have conceded in six of their last seven games away from the Emirates Stadium in all competitions.

Arsenal should win this one, but a clean sheet will probably be beyond them. Goals at both ends is the way to go for sports bettors.
