The excitement levels in Mexico are off the charts, as the national team prepares for its first World Cup match on home soil since 1986. El Tri is the favorite to win the opening game of the tournament against South Africa, where a clean sheet would set the co-host on its way to victory on matchday one.
Mexico will lean on its defense this summer. The offensive line lacks the star quality of previous Mexican teams, which is a major reason why the odds for Mexico to win World Cup glory remain relatively long. Center-forward Raul Jimenez is now 35 and has just joined a club in the English Championship, one division below the Premier League. Few members of the Mexico roster compete at a high level in Europe, so qualities such as organisation, balance and cohesion will be key to its prospects at this World Cup.
Mexico has looked impressively solid in 2026. It has kept six clean sheets in eight matches this calendar year, conceding just two goals. None of Panama, Bolivia, Iceland, Portugal, Ghana or Australia was able to score against Aguirre’s men.
South Africa’s attack will have its work cut out. Bafana Bafana is a tidy team capable of playing some neat soccer, but it lacks punch in the final third - as illustrated by a frustrating 0-0 draw with Nicaragua in a recent warm-up friendly.
In its last seven games at the Estadio Azteca, Mexico has kept six clean sheets. With that in mind, back ‘no’ in the first of your soccer BTTS predictions today at -190 with DraftKings.

We have made a different choice for the second of our Both Teams to Score tips. Whereas Mexico is a clear favorite against South Africa in the latest World Cup odds, these two teams are more evenly matched. In our view, neither South Korea nor Czechia will keep a clean sheet when the duo goes head-to-head in the second game of the competition.
These two teams are in direct competition for a top-two finish in Group A, which makes this a crunch clash first up. There is no opportunity for South Korea and Czechia to ease their way into the tournament, since a defeat here would leave either side in a precarious position. That means if one team takes the lead, the other will have to take a few risks in order to get back into the game.
Czechia is a physically robust, hardworking side. It does not play a particularly pretty brand of soccer, but its approach is effective. Czechia will rely on set-pieces and crosses into the box. It is a strategy that will trouble South Korea, although the Taeguk Warriors will cause problems of its own with its speed and direct running in transition.
It is noteworthy that both teams have scored in each of Czechia’s last four games. Miroslav Koubek’s team has struggled to simultaneously create chances going forward and keep things tight at the back. As soon as Czechia opens up, it is more vulnerable itself. Yet it has scored in seven consecutive matches, so South Korea’s backline is in for a testing 90 minutes. Choose both teams to score at +115 with DraftKings.
