The elephant in the room for Portugal is Cristiano Ronaldo, who is 41 years old and way past his peak. That could be an issue as the competition unfolds, but it will not necessarily hurt Portugal in its first game. With Ronaldo surrounded by the likes of Rafael Leao, Pedro Neto and Bruno Fernandes, Portugal will create plenty of chances today. DR Congo is defensively sturdy, but it will struggle to keep Portugal out.

England has never won a major tournament overseas, while it has now been 60 years since it lifted the World Cup trophy on home soil. Another summer of success is long overdue and England is among the favorites to go all the way this time, but it has a difficult start against a familiar foe in Croatia.

These two teams met in the last four of World Cup 2018, when Croatia came from behind to win 2-1 and reach the final. England has gotten revenge since then, beating Croatia in the European Championship and the Nations League, but Zlatko Dalic’s side is always a tough opponent.

Ghana arrives at the World Cup in poor form, having lost six and drawn one of its last seven games. The Black Stars failed to score in four of those matches, and star player Antoine Semenyo has a disappointing record for the national team with just three goals in 34 caps.
