One of the moments of the World Cup so far were the Cape Verde celebrations after its goalless tie with Spain. The pre-tournament favorite to lift the trophy was held to a scoreless stalemate by a debutant team representing a nation of less than 500,000 people.
Needless to say, Spain did not cover itself in glory on matchday one. Patience is a virtue in life and in soccer, but sometimes you have to force the issue. Spain did not do that until Cape Verde had grown in confidence. It did create opportunities, but without Lamine Yamal and Nico Williams on the field from the start (the wing wizards only appeared as second-half substitutes), Spain was toothless. It will not repeat the same mistakes against Saudi Arabia.
The only positive for Spain was that it gave Cape Verde virtually nothing going the other way. Its ability to endlessly keep the ball is not always a positive attribute in terms of its attacking priority, but it has huge defensive value. If Spain is in possession, it cannot concede.
It will similarly pin Saudi Arabia back today, keeping its opponent far away from its goal. The Saudis do not have enough weapons on the counter-attack to break through. Back BTTS no at -250 with BetMGM.

Our Both Teams to Score tips continue with Belgium vs Iran. The situation in Group G is delicate: all four teams drew their first encounters of the summer, leaving them all on one point. It is technically true of every group after just one set of games, but anyone can finish top and anyone can finish fourth in this section.
However, Egypt and New Zealand are happier than Belgium and Iran with the situation as it stands. The latter duo were favorites to win their respective openers, but neither team was able to get the job done. Belgium started too slowly against Egypt, while Iran twice fell behind to New Zealand.
On the plus side, Belgium and Iran both looked dangerous going forward. Belgium has now scored in eight consecutive matches stretching back to last October. Iran has found the net in each of the three games it has played this calendar year. Select BTTS yes at +115 with BetMGM.

Whatever happens from here, fans of the Cape Verde national team will never forget the summer of 2026. By holding the mighty Spain to a 0-0 tie, it has already exceeded expectations in its first ever World Cup outing. However, it is not about to settle for what it already has. Cape Verde will believe it has a real shot at qualifying for the round of 32.
Uruguay was poor in its 1-1 draw with Saudi Arabia. In truth, it has been unconvincing for some time. Marcelo Bielsa is not popular with the players, while his tactical acumen deserted him against the Saudis, with a novel 4-4-2 system not working at all.
Uruguay’s soccer was stodgy and that is likely to be the case again against Cape Verde, which defended with admirable discipline last time out. If the debutant can be just as diligent here, Uruguay has fewer weapons to break it down than Spain.
In nine of Uruguay’s last 13 matches, only one team has scored. Clean sheets tend to be common in its games, either for itself or its opponent. We anticipate at least one defensive shut-out today - tip BTTS no at -185 with BetMGM.

We conclude our BTTS predictions today football with a pick for New Zealand vs Egypt, an important match for both teams. As we mentioned above, Group G is wide open heading into the second set of fixtures after all four teams tied their opening games. New Zealand played out a 2-2 draw with Iran, while Egypt’s meeting with Belgium finished 1-1.
New Zealand was brighter against Iran than many people expected, scoring two lovely goals and creating a few more chances. Chris Wood caused the Iranian defense numerous issues, and Elijah Just was a livewire from the left. New Zealand is a punchy side and it will be quietly confident of finding the back of the net here.
Egypt will also back itself to get on the scoresheet, especially with a front two of Omar Marmoush and Mohamed Salah. Those two players have the ability to change a game in an instant by producing a moment of magic in and around the penalty area. Choose BTTS yes at +120 with BetMGM for your final wager on today’s action in North America.
