A prop bet is a wager on a specific in-game event, rather than one on the result of the match. We have picked our preferred World Cup player props and team selections for the first two games of the tournament.

World Cup 2026 begins with a rematch of the opening game from 2010, as Mexico take on South Africa.
In that memorable opening game in 2010, Mexico only scored once in a 1-1 draw with hosts South Africa. This time, El Tri will back itself to find the back of the net at least twice, which makes over 1.5 goals for the co-hosts the first of our suggested daily World Cup team props.
This Mexico roster lacks top-tier talent, with relatively few players competing at the highest level of European club soccer, a factor that heavily impacts the longshot odds for Mexico to win World Cup glory. But Javier Aguirre’s team plays with intensity and aggression, and it will pin South Africa back from the start. In its last match, Mexico’s offense dazzled in a 5-1 victory over Serbia, a performance which underlined the side’s attacking potential.
South Africa’s defense has not been entirely convincing of late. In its last five games, South Africa has conceded at least two goals on three occasions, to Zimbabwe, Cameroon and Panama. One clean sheet in its last seven fixtures shows that Hugo Broos’ outfit is not the most solid.
Mexico has not lost a competitive game at the Estadio Azteca since 2013. In three of its last four matches at the iconic venue, Mexico has scored two goals or more. Back over 1.5 goals for the co-hosts at -154 with FanDuel.

Among the best soccer player props today, this one stands out as a particularly appealing choice.
Raul Jimenez is the talismanic figure in this Mexico team, and his colleagues will look to him to make the difference in the final third against South Africa and beyond. There is pressure on Jimenez’s shoulders, but he has the temperament, maturity and experience to handle it.
This is Jimenez’s fourth World Cup, but he has yet to score on soccer’s biggest stage. However, that statistic is not as damning as it appears at first glance. At Brazil 2014, Russia 2018 and Qatar 2022, Jimenez was a back-up striker. Somewhat surprisingly, he has never started a World Cup match before. That explains his failure to find the back of the net up to this point.
Whereas Jimenez has had to play second fiddle to other forwards in the past, Mexico’s offense is now built around him. He scored in the 5-1 thrashing of Serbia and looked sharp throughout that game. And in his last two seasons for Premier League side Fulham, Jimenez reached double figures for goals. Tip the Mexico striker to score anytime at +140 with FanDuel.

The second game in Group A sees South Korea and Czechia go head-to-head in Guadalajara.
According to the latest World Cup odds, Mexico is the favorite to win Group A and South Africa is the outsider. That potentially leaves South Korea and Czechia locked in a tussle for second spot. Thursday’s match between the two teams is therefore vital for both. The winner will be in pole position to finish in the top two, whereas the loser will immediately have ground to make up.
The stakes are high from the get-go, then, and that will be reflected in the type of soccer we see. This will be a slow-burner of a game, with both sides wary of making mistakes. Cautious tactics will be on display in the first half in particular, as South Korea and Czechia gradually feel their way into the game. It would be a surprise if either team was quick out of the blocks here.
More goals tend to be scored in the second half of matches anyway, as legs and minds tire and the ticking clock compels greater urgency.
Yet this wager looks like a particularly good fit for South Korea. You have to go back to a 2-0 triumph over the USA in September to find the last time a match involving the Taeguk Warriors featured more goals before the break than after it; South Korea has played nine games since then. Choose more goals in the second half at +122 with FanDuel.

While soccer player props tend to focus on who will score, there is often value to be found in the shots market - as there is in this game between South Korea and Czechia.
Now 33 years old, this will probably be Son Heung-min’s last World Cup. The former Tottenham Hotspur forward is past his best these days, but he remains the leader of this South Korea team. Son is not quite as quick as he once was, but given he will be up against a 33-year-old Czechia right-back in Vladimir Coufal, the left-sided attacker will still have a speed advantage.
Czechia tends to sit deep, so South Korea will have plenty of the ball in the opposition half. That will allow Son to stay close to goal, increasing his chances of getting shots away. During his time in the Premier League, Son consistently performed his xG, which demonstrates he is an accurate finisher. When he shoots at goal, Son usually finds the target.
In his last start, in South Korea’s 5-0 victory over Trinidad & Tobago, Son landed three shots on target. Back him to reach at least two against Czechia at +200 with FanDuel.
