France vs. England Prop Bets
France and England will go head-to-head in the third-place play-off at World Cup 2026.
Both Teams to Score ($0.69) at Polymarket
We start our daily World Cup team props picks with the warning that third-place play-offs are notoriously different to predict. We will not know until kick-off how motivated France and England are, and whether or not there is a discrepancy between them in terms of how seriously they take the fixture.
That extends to the managers. Perhaps Didier Deschamps will name his strongest possible side and Thomas Tuchel will make 11 changes, or vice versa. In these circumstances, it is difficult to be confident in our predictions. But both teams getting on the scoresheet feels like an outcome which could hold regardless of the factors mentioned above.
France drew a blank against Spain in the semi-finals, as its star-studded forward line came unstuck against the collective approach of La Roja. But before that, the likes of Kylian Mbappe, Ousmane Dembele, Michael Olise and Desire Doue looked unstoppable. Against an unconvincing England defense, it should be normal service resumed for France.
What of England? It has scored in all but one fixture at this tournament, a goalless draw with Ghana in the group stage. True, it has been heavily reliant on Harry Kane and Jude Bellingham, who have scored 12 of England’s 14 goals, and both those players looked tired in the 2-1 loss to Argentina. But the Three Lions should nevertheless find a way past a France team that can be vulnerable defensively against stronger sides, as we saw in the loss to Spain last time out.
Choose both teams to score as your first props bet for today’s World Cup action. That outcome costs $0.69 on Polymarket.

France to Win the Second Half ($0.46) at Polymarket
Whereas France was second best in its semi-final against Spain, England actually took the lead against Argentina. But it began to sink deeper and deeper after going 1-0 up, especially after Thomas Tuchel made the disastrous decision to switch to a back five with 20 minutes plus stoppage time remaining. That simply invited more pressure and Argentina duly scored twice to turn the match on its head and secure a place in the final for the second World Cup in a row.
It is something we have seen from England teams at many different tournaments down the years. We are unlikely to see a repeat on Saturday, though: the stakes are not high enough to warrant a retreat from England if it has the lead. Nevertheless, we expect France to have the better of the second half.
Didier Deschamps’ roster contains more strength in depth than Tuchel’s. France also looks fresher than England. It may have lost to Spain, but that was not due to fatigue. England, on the other hand, looked extremely tired against Argentina. That is not the main reason it lost, but it certainly did not help. France is better placed to get stronger as this bronze medal match wears on.
France has scored 11 goals in the second half this summer compared to five goals in the first half. It won the second half in each of its matches before the loss to Spain. Back France to do the same when it faces England - you can buy this position for $0.46 at Polymarket.

Kylian Mbappe to Score Anytime ($0.52) at Polymarket
We now turn our attention to the soccer player props odds, specifically the anytime scorer market. There are numerous contenders. Kylian Mbappe and Harry Kane have both had good tournaments, although the latter had minimal impact against Norway in the quarter-finals and Argentina in the semi-finals. Jude Bellingham has been England’s best player, scoring six goals (the same as Kane), while Ousmane Dembele has made the net bulge on five occasions.
Mbappe is the obvious choice, though. Both he and Lionel Messi are tied at the top of the scoring charts on eight goals, so one of them will almost certainly win the Golden Boot. The fact that Mbappe remains in contention for the prize means he is bound to start on Saturday, whereas there is a higher chance of Kane beginning the match on the bench.
Mbappe was quiet against Spain, although he was hardly alone in that regard. But there is no question that he has had a wonderful World Cup on an individual level. He seems to enjoy his soccer more for the national team than for Real Madrid, where he at times looks weighed down by expectation. Mbappe has produced multiple moments of magic for Les Bleus over the past few weeks.
He is about to face an England defense which has not been convincing all tournament. Partly because of injury and partly down to his own choices, Thomas Tuchel has made several personnel changes to his back four over the last few weeks, unable to settle on a favored quartet. England has not kept a clean sheet in the knockout phase, so France and Mbappe will get chances in this one.
Tip France’s talisman, the Golden Boot-chasing Mbappe, to find the back of the net in the third-place play-off. That prediction will cost you $0.52 at Polymarket.
