USA vs Australia 2026 06 19

Expert Betting Predictions and Best Bets for USA vs. Australia

Below are our three top tips for USA vs. Australia, including two straight bets and one same-game parlay.

  • USA to Win

Both teams impressed in their first games, but the USA has the tools to make it two wins from two. Australia was excellent defensively against Turkey, but Mauricio Pochettino will have drawn several conclusions from the European side’s shortcomings. If the USA moves the ball quickly and gets its attackers into space, it has the quality to come out on top. It will not be straightforward, but the USA will prove too strong for Australia in this one.

  • Both Teams to Score

The one negative from the Paraguay game was the defensive lapse that allowed Mauricio to score for the South Americans. The way Australia plays means it will not create numerous clear-cut chances, but the opportunities it does fashion will be good ones. Whether from open play or set-pieces, Australia will find the back of the net - but so will the USA, and probably more than once. Goals at both ends is our second selection for today’s match.

  • Over 1.5 Goals and Folarin Balogun Anytime Scorer

If both teams score as we expect, there will already be over 1.5 goals. Or if the USA keeps a clean sheet, it is capable of scoring at least twice itself. The USA made a huge number of chances against Paraguay, showcasing its offensive quality. Combine over 1.5 goals with a wager on Folarin Balogun to score any time. The Monaco striker was superb last time out, scoring twice and looking sharp throughout. He will back himself to get on the scoresheet again.

USA Betting Preview

Fans of the USMNT could not have asked for a better performance against Paraguay. The team got out of the blocks quickly and pinned its opponent back. It pressed with energy and intelligence, winning possession high up the pitch or forcing Paraguay to play long, aimless passes forward. It smothered the South Americans, who could not live with the USA’s dynamic, intense play - sparking immediate movement in the USA odds to win World Cup betting markets.

Mauricio Pochettino will want to see more of the same here, although Australia will limit the USA’s opportunities to win the ball in advanced areas by playing a direct brand of soccer. The USA therefore needs to be patient against a well-organized backline, waiting for the right moment to strike.

Christian Pulisic came off at half-time in the Paraguay game, but his substitution was precautionary. Pulisic will be fit to start on the left, giving Pochettino the opportunity to name an unchanged XI. The USA will look to its bench in the second half, especially if the game is still tight and there is not much separating the two sides.

Australia Betting Preview

Australia executed its game plan to perfection against Turkey. It knew it was the underdog before kick-off but embraced that status rather than rebelling against it. Australia defended in a low block and squeezed the space between the lines. Turkey’s technicians found it impossible to play through the Australian rearguard, while the Socceroos offered a threat going the other way on the counter-attack.

Tony Popovic’s team will use a similar approach against the USA, although it cannot expect the Americans to make the same mistakes as Turkey, which lost its patience too easily and took too many speculative shots from outside the box. Still, Australia is comfortable soaking up pressure and breaking at speed in transition, which the USA must be mindful of.

Just like in the USA, soccer is not one of the three most popular sports in Australia. But the country has a rich sporting pedigree and that sense of competitiveness is evident in how the Socceroos play. Australia will make life difficult for the USA today, as it attempts to book its place in the knockout phase of the World Cup.

How USA and Australia Match Up Against Each Other

The USA’s record during Mauricio Pochettino’s tenure is mixed, but it certainly looked like a typical Pochettino team against Paraguay. The manager will demand the same intensity today, and although the match kicks off at 12 p.m. local time, the temperatures will not be too high in Seattle. That will allow the USA to play at a high tempo in and out of possession.

However, Australia will seek to avoid falling into the USA’s trap by playing long to their lone striker Mohamed Toure, who has the pace and power to make a nuisance of himself up front. If Chris Richards locks Toure down, the USA will be able to send the ball straight back to Australia’s half. But if the Socceroos can pick out Toure and Nestory Irankunda, who scored the opener against Turkey, it will be able to launch counter-attacks.

The USA has more depth in its roster, so if the score is level in the second half, Pochettino will look to his bench for potential game-changers. The head-to-head record is also in the USA’s favor: the last meeting between these sides in October last year ended in a 2-1 victory for the Stars and Stripes. The USA will not have everything its own way at Seattle Stadium, but we expect it to maintain its 100 percent record at World Cup 2026.
