It appears that credit card deposits may soon be a distant memory for the sports betting industry.
Caesars Sportsbook has announced it will no longer accept credit card deposits. The change will include all of the operator’s platforms for casinos, sportsbooks, and racebooks. The Las Vegas giant is the fifth major gambling operator to reject credit cards, joining Bet365, BetMGM, DraftKings, and FanDuel. This policy shift reflects a broader industry trend toward responsible gaming.
Surprisingly, Caesars didn’t cite concerns around problem gambling when confirming the change. Instead, it framed the move as an attempt to eliminate a seldom-used banking method.
“This change follows months of independent review and careful evaluation that began last fall, during which we closely assessed our deposit processes and customer preferences,” a spokesperson for Caesars shared with SBC Americas. “By streamlining our payment options, we are simplifying the deposit experience, improving operational efficiency, and reinforcing our commitment to delivering a seamless, customer‑first digital experience.”
This is similar to the statements DraftKings released when it banned credit cards last summer, citing low demand and higher fees.
The new ban on credit cards will only affect customers in the US, leaving Puerto Rico and Ontario unaffected.

While gambling addiction is a threat to all bettors, it presents unique dangers for those using credit cards to fund the habit.
One big reason is the high rates on cash advances, which can significantly increase the cost of credit card deposits. It can be easy to accept those costs when caught up in the excitement of gambling, with many failing to truly grasp the financial impact of what they are committing to.
Credit cards also charge customers interest when they carry a balance on their accounts. While it may seem small by comparison, those costs can add up quickly, especially when dealing with larger bills.
The combination of these two factors results in bettors who use credit cards paying significantly more than those who use debit cards. That’s why the deposit method is often linked to problem gambling, as desperate bettors risk high costs for a chance to chase their losses.
