Social Gaming Companies Form Industry Alliance
A new industry group, the Social Gaming Leadership Alliance (SGLA), has been established by several major social gaming companies to push for clearer standards and greater transparency in the online social casino sector.
The launch comes as social casinos, which are free to play and simulate casino-style experiences, gain widespread popularity and regulatory attention. Though they do not involve traditional gambling with real money, many of these platforms include sweepstakes-style features that can award prizes, including cash, raising questions about user protection and oversight.
The SGLA was created to address what its founders describe as a growing need for better understanding of how social casino games operate. The group aims to advocate for responsible innovation, improved safety measures, age restrictions, and industry-wide accountability. It also intends to work with legislators, regulators, and the public to shape thoughtful oversight of this space.
The founding members include VGW, PLAYSTUDIOS, Yellow Social Interactive, ARB Interactive, B-Two Operations, and payments company Nuvei. Former U.S. Congressman Jeff Duncan has been appointed as Executive Director.
According to the alliance, its core principles are to keep games free to access, enforce age verification, protect user data, and offer tools that help players manage their playtime and spending habits.
Social casino gaming has become a significant part of the digital entertainment market over the past decade, particularly in North America. Supporters of the new alliance say the SGLA will help ensure the category grows with stronger safeguards and clearer expectations for operators.
Laurence Escalante, CEO of VGW, said the initiative comes at a crucial time. “This sector is growing fast. The SGLA gives us a way to set the tone for what responsible innovation should look like.”
The group is in discussions with other companies in the space and says it expects to welcome additional partners in the near future.
