Barbados Royals are having a nightmarish campaign in this season’s Caribbean Premier League. Having won only one of their six matches, they are placed at the bottom of the standings, with their net run rate being equally concerning. Though Jason Holder’s men have four more matches to turn things around, it seems unlikely, as they showed spirit and character in only one of their five defeats.
Guyana Amazon Warriors are currently a part of the top four, but they have hardly had any stability. Nicholas Pooran’s men have won three matches, but are yet to win two matches on the trot. After a few poor batting performances, the Warriors’ batters looked brilliant against the Royals, and they will hope to take advantage of their opponent’s tumultuous situation.
Jason Holder will have a lot of pondering to do, in terms of his team combination. He recently introduced Jake Lintott, a player who has done incredibly well in England recently, in place of Hayden Walsh Jr. That move did not pay off, as Lintott went for 10 runs an over in his last match. Hence, Walsh might regain his place for this match. Besides that, Holder can also give veteran Mohammad Amir a chance in the playing XI in place of Oshane Thomas, who went for 12.50 runs per over in the last match. As for Guyana, while they are not expected to change their winning combination, Pooran can hand Naveen-ul-Haq his place back, since his replacement Kevin Sinclair went wicketless in the last match.
Mohammad Hafeez: Ageing like fine wine, Mohammad ‘The Professor’ Hafeez is playing a vital role for Guyana Amazon Warriors in their current campaign. He is one of the only three Guyana players to have scored over 125 runs, and one of the two to have an average of over 30. He has been useful with the ball as well, as the 40-year-old has scalped 4 wickets. Hafeez has conceded only 5.75 runs per over, being the only bowler from his team to have an economy rate of under 6 after bowling 10 or more overs.
Azam Khan: While Mohammad Hafeez has been sensational for the Warriors, a fellow Pakistani who is almost half his age in Azam Khan has been one of Barbados’ better players. The wicketkeeper has scored 157 runs. Known for his big-hitting, Khan is the only Barbados batter to have a strike rate of over 120, amongst those who have scored over 25 runs. Even in the last match against Guyana, he was his team’s highest run-scorer, with his 26-ball 28.
