Get ready for the biggest game of Week 15 of the 2021 Apertura: Club America vs Tigres.
In what has become a tense Liga MX rivalry in the making, both America and Tigres represent some of the most prestigious clubs in Mexican soccer.
While America are the most successful team of all time in Liga MX, Tigres were the most dominant in the 2010s.
This season, both are once again looking superb with their positions in the top 3 spots of the league table.
That said, America should have the upper hand here.
They’re not only undefeated at home this season but have also maintained their momentum under manager Santiago Solari.

It hasn’t been too bad of an Apertura tournament for America and Tigres.
Looking at Tigres, things are finally starting to click under new manager Miguel “Piojo” Herrera.
And although they need to work on collecting consecutive victories, the good news is that they’ve only suffered two losses so far this season.
Nonetheless, the story of the tournament so far is that of America’s.
Often fighting through narrow results and close battles, Solari and his men always find a way to get the job done in their current spot at 1st (at time of writing).
We saw it in their latest 2-1 victory, we’ve seen it in their three-game winning streak, and on Saturday, we’ll also get a chance to watch it at the Estadio Azteca.
In order to find the last time America lost a Liga MX match at the Azteca, we would have to go back to last November when they lost 2-1 to rivals Chivas de Guadalajara.
Since then, they’ve held onto an incredible 16-game undefeated streak.
It’s not as if they are sneaking by withdraws either.
From those 16, 14 have been victories for America in their Mexico City fortress.
No team has been more dominant at home this season than America, which will likely make things difficult for the visitors.
It’s fair to praise the gradual progress that Tigres have made under Herrera, but that said, he and his roster should also be scrutinized for occasionally stumbling.
Outside of their latest 3-0 win over Pachuca and a 3-0 win against San Luis in September, it’s tough to highlight many other exciting results in the last two months for Tigres.
They regularly slump down to underwhelming draws and are even at times lucky to run away with a point.
Tigres can’t afford to do this against America.
When looking at those who have made an impact for America, it’s easy to highlight a long list of players: Salvador Reyes, Sebastian Cordova, Guillermo Ochoa and countless others.
However, one name that is worthy of just as much credit — if not more — is Alvaro Fidalgo.
Already blessed with excellent playmaking abilities, the Spaniard’s energy and passing accuracy seem to have increased significantly this season.
The attack-minded midfielder is able to find the back of the net as well.
In America’s recent 2-1 win against Santos Laguna, Fidalgo scored the first goal of the match.
With an incredible work rate on the pitch, Fidalgo will easily be a key player to watch for America this Saturday.
