Club América have got the better of Club Tijuana in their last few meetings. The away side has won 4 of the previous 5 games between these two clubs, and the other was a draw. Moreover, they have conceded just once in those matches while scoring 11 times.
The last time Club Tijuana beat Club América in the league was back in 2019 when they pulled off a 3-2 win. Ariel Nahuelpán and Gustavo Bou scored two goals in 5 minutes in the second half to turn the game around after Guido Rodríguez’s brace had handed Club America a 2-1 lead in the first half.
We think that Club America are heavy favorites coming into this game, even if they are playing away, and even if they’re a team that has been particularly prone to picking up red cards this season. Perhaps that is nullified by the fact that they also are the team whose opponents have picked up a larger number of red cards as well. Expect a feisty encounter where both teams could end up scoring, but also end up picking up a number of cards.
Club Tijuana have not been at their best in their last five league games. They have managed just one win, while drawing twice and losing the other two. The worrying point for their fans would be how the team has not been able to muster a good performance in all areas in a game this season.
Things have gone downhill for them after their back-to-back wins over Atlas and Toluca. They were on course to finish in the top 12 comfortably and make it to the playoffs but are now hanging on to the last place and hoping that the teams below them do not find form at the last minute.
Santos Laguna stunned them with a 4-0 win at the start of March, which has been ringing in their minds since. The opponents were struggling for points but were able to produce their best performance of the season against a side who were coming off two big wins. Fernando Gorriarán and Leonardo Suárez got a goal each, while Harold Preciado scored a brace to help Santos win and send Sebastian Mendez back to the drawing board to fix things up.
The slight change in tactics helped, and Tijuana managed to get a win once again. They defeated Juárez FC 1-0 at Estadio Caliente thanks to a second half goal from Joaquín Montecinos. The substitute missed his penalty in the 85th minute but was able to get on the end of a ball from Lucas Rodríguez to give them a much-needed win. To make things better, Tijuana were down to 10 men in the first half itself after Victor Guzmán was sent off for a professional last-man foul.
Mendez was looking forward to the same from his players in the upcoming games but was unable to get it. Despite putting on a solid display, they lost 2-0 to title challengers Tigres. They kept their opponents at bay in the first half, but Juan Vigón and André-Pierre Gignac scored after the restart to hand them the win.
Facundo Waller’s goal 5 minutes from time was enough to help Atletico de San Luis get a point from their match against Tijuana. Lisandro López had scored the lone goal until then, and the home side were cruising to the finishing line. However, the points shared made things difficult for the home side, who were slipping in the league table.
Pachuca were up next for the side struggling to get points, but they pulled off one of the surprises of the season. The title favorites were unable to break the defense that was leaking goals, and the matches ended goalless to everyone’s shock. Pachuca had a penalty in the first half to take the lead, but Nicolás Ibáñez’s spot kick was off target.

Club América looked set to be out of the running for a playoff spot after picking up just one win in their opening 10 matches. They were hanging around at the absolute rock bottom of the table for a few weeks, and every team facing them was going into the game as favorites for the three points.
All that has changed in their last three matches as Club America have pulled off a stunning turnaround to their season. They have won all three games and are the team in form right now. The 9 points have seen them jump to 11th in the table, and a win this weekend would see them move into the top 8, at least for the time being.
The miraculous comeback started with a dominant win over Toluca. They took a stunning 3-0 lead inside the first minutes of the game, and that was enough for them to collect all three points. Roger Martínez, Diego Valdés, and Alejandro Zendejas got on the scoresheet for them, and despite the lead, they kept attacking for more, but could not get another goal.
They followed it up with a win over Necaxa, and it was all down to a last-minute winner. Diego Valdés scored in the 90th minute after the two teams fought out for three points at Estadio Victoria. The points looked set to be shared, but Valdes ensured that the late playoff push continued for Club America.
The confidence was through the roof, and it was evident against Juarez. They took another early lead in the game and were up 2-0 inside the first 30 minutes. Alejandro Zendejas scored in the 27th minute before Federico Viñas doubled their lead 3 minutes later. Valdés once again scored in the final minute of the game to get them a 3-0 win after a breathtaking performance of poise and control.
Club America managed 16 shots on goal last weekend, but only 6 of those were on target. They restricted their opponents to just 4 shots in the entire game, and they are heading in the right direction, even though they started this victory march very late in a season where all the wheels seemed to be emphatically falling off at one point. For what it’s worth, they might well cause some upsets from here on and get deep into the playoffs if they sustain this form over the next four games.
