Guadalajara vs Club León Prediction

Guadalajara will find it hard to beat Club León and are very likely to continue their hunt for a first win this season. The away side should get the win with ease and continue their dominance. Club León have lost just once to Guadalajara in the last six meetings. They will be looking to keep that run going and build on their two-match winning streak over their opponents.

The last time these two sides met was back in February this year, when they clashed in the Clausura. While Guadalajara dominated the possession and had more shots on goal, they ended up losing to León.

Last Time Around

The home side opened the scoring in the 18th minute via Victor Dávila against the run of play. The goal gave León the power to sit back and defend, instead of attacking and leaving themselves open at the back.

Guadalajara could not make the most of their chances but managed to pull themselves level in the 81st minute. However, they could not manage to walk away with a point from the game as Osvaldo Rodríguez scored in the final seconds of the game to give Club León the win. The win could not help León qualify for the playoffs in the Clausura season, while Guadalajara did manage to get in with ease despite the loss because they finished 6th on the table.

When Guadalajara Last Beat León

The last time Guadalajara won in the league against Club León was back in the Clausura season in early 2021. Jesús Sánchez and José Macías scored early in the game to hand the away side a 2-0 lead, before Antonio Briseño’s pulled one back for Club León just after the hour mark.

But things got worse for the home side as William Tesillo was sent off and sealed the win for Guadalajara with a third goal in the 84th minute. Just two of the last 10 meetings between these two sides have ended in a draw. Another one is on the cards this week if Guadalaraja sit back and defend tightly, but that looks unlikely to happen.

Guadalajara Are Winless This Season

Guadalajara finished 10th in Apertura last year and made it to the playoffs. They were not guaranteed a place in the top 12 until a win on the final day secured their spot after they went on a brilliant run at the end. This pattern somewhat repeated during the Clausura season as well, and going by how they have started this season, they might need another miraculous run at the end to qualify for the playoffs. They sit in 15th place right now with no wins in their first three games.

Guadalajara did well in the transfer market by signing Alan Mozo from Pumas UNAM in the window. They also got Fernando González, Pável Pérez, and Jesús Orozco Chiquete to bolster their squad.  Raúl Gudiño, César Huerta and have found new clubs while Gael Sandoval and José Madueña are yet to sign contracts with any side after being let go.

A Poor Start

In the league, Guadalajara started off with a goalless draw at home. They were up against Juarez and could not manage to get the win they deserved. They had 48 percent of the possession and took 14 shots, managing to get five of them on target. Meanwhile, their opponents struggled and got just one shot on target.

They were up against Atletico San Luis next and were beaten against the run of play. Once again, Guadalajara had more shots and gave their opponents just one shot on goal, but this time, San Luis managed to score with that shot and sealed a 1-0 win. Guadalajara did well to impress in their first game away from home but still couldn’t change the script during the second game they played in front of their fans at home. They dominated their opponents for the third time running and failed to make the most of their chances. Santos Laguna scored from their best chance to level things up and share the points.

Injuries and Suspensions

Jesús Molina, José Macías, Jesús Angulo, Sergio Flores and Javier López are out injured and will be missing the upcoming game.

Club León Started Well, but Are Not at Their Best

While Club León failed to make it to the playoffs in the Clausura, they did well in the Apertura last season. They finished 3rd in the league with eight wins from their 17 matches, collecting 29 points in total.

They have started the season well this time around as well, and are on course to make it to the playoffs with ease. It was evident that León needed additions to the squad after their failure in the Clausura, and the club have done well. Byron Castillo has been signed from Barcelona SC, while Paul Bellón has also been snapped up on a free transfer. Lucas Di Yorio and Alfonso Alvarado have joined on loan, with Óscar Villa and Juan Rangel getting promoted from the U20 side.

There have been outgoing transfers too, with Jean Meneses getting sold to Toluca with Andrés Mosquera and Fernando Navarro joining him on a free transfer. Gary Kagelmacher has also left the club and moved to Catolica after getting released.

Results Showing on the Pitch

The moves in the transfer market have worked well, and Lucas Di Yorio in particular has been a hero for them so far. The Argentine scored in the 93rd minute of the first game to hand them a win over Atletico de San Luis. Federico Martínez had given León the lead in the first half, but an own goal from Byron Castillo saw the scores leveled up in the 77th minute. But Di Yorio scored in injury time to seal all three points in a dramatic finish.

Di Yorio was Club León’s savior again in the second game as he scored twice to help them come from 3-0 down to pick up a point. Juan Dinenno, Gustavo del Prete and Eduardo Salvio scored for Pumas to hand them a comfortable 3-0 lead before Lucas Di Yorio and Joel Campbell scored for León to make it 3-2 before the hour mark. The on-loan star got on the scoresheet again in the 79th minute to help them rescue a point.

Di Yorio in Blazing Form

Di Yorio was looking to make it four goals in three games and he did exactly that. Omar Fernández scored the opening goal of the game for Puebla and things got worse for Club León as Jaine Barreiro was sent off before halftime. Maximiliano Araújo was shown the red card early in the second half to make it 10 vs 10, and it was Di Yorio who took full advantage. The on-loan player scored in the 79th minute to help León keep their unbeaten run going.

No player is out injured or suspended for the upcoming game.
