Leon vs Club America Predictions and Picks

This should be a fantastic Liga MX battle.

Heading into Week 7 of the 2021 Apertura, 2nd place Leon will host 1st place Club America in what should be a playoff preview.

No teams have been better than them during the first seven weeks of the season, and with plenty of momentum building, we should be in for a thrilling 90 minutes.

And although Leon are hosting this one, there is reason to believe that America will emerge victoriously.

Pick:

America for the win and three points.

Can America earn a massive away victory against Leon?

As mentioned earlier, this is a playoff preview of sorts, and as the current top two teams this season, neither club can be taken for granted.

And yet, Leon do have some slight weaknesses in comparison to America.

Leon’s defense has sometimes looked questionable, they narrowly escaped with a 1-1 draw at home last week, and most importantly, they’re still a work in progress under their new manager.

Which isn’t to say that they have been bad either.

They’re well-deserving of their place in 2nd after Week 6 and have put in some commendable performances.

Nonetheless, going up against America will be their biggest test of their season so far.

Santiago Solari Hype Train Continues Chugging Along For America

It truly is impressive to see what manager Santiago Solari has done with this team since taking charge earlier this year.

Although it’s easy to highlight their attack, what truly sets Solari and his roster apart from others is the near-perfect showing they’ve had when halting goals.

They’ve only allowed a total of two in six games, and they’ve only allowed one in their last five games in all competitions.

It’s astounding to see — which can’t exactly be said about Leon’s backline.

Leon Defense Isn’t Entirely Reliable

It wasn’t too long ago when Leon suffered an embarrassing 4-0 loss to Pachuca last month.

Things have changed significantly since then, and that loss remains as their only defeat so far this season, but small signs of that one-sided defeat continue to remain.

In fact, they’ve overperformed their xG (expected goals) and xGA (expected goals against) numbers so far this season, which means they might drop soon.

With a backline that isn’t entirely solidified just yet for new manager Ariel Holan, Saturday could be a wake-up call for Leon.

Confidence Is Skyrocketing For America’s Salvador Reyes

As of now, the argument could be made that Salvador Reyes is the signing of the Liga MX season.

Defensively solid and crucial with his tackles, Reyes has also been outstanding in America’s attack with three goals and two assists in six matches.

It’s incredible and it’s no wonder why he earned a chance to represent Liga MX’s all-stars earlier this week.

The sky’s the limit for Reyes, and on Saturday, he’ll have another chance to truly make a name for himself with America.
