Pachuca and Tigres UANL will take a cautious approach in this game as they cannot afford to make mistakes. This season, both sides are in fine form and have lost just once each. Their form in the last five games is identical – 4 wins and a draw, although Pachuca have won each of their last three games.
A scored draw is predicted between these two sides on Sunday. These two are currently the top-scoring teams in the league, with both of them bagging 17 goals from their 8 games. However, Tigres are leaky at the back, and have conceded 13 as opposed to Pachuca’s 8 goals conceded. So we think if there is a win, it is likely to be in Pachuca’s favor.
When the two sides met in October 2021, Tigres UANL thumped Pachuca 3-0 at home. However, in the fixture before, at Estadio Miguel Hidalgo, Pachuca came out victorious at home thanks to a late goal from Roberto de la Rosa.
Pachuca have made an excellent start to the Clausura season and are currently sitting on top of the table. They have lost just once – to Leon – but the only other time they’ve dropped points is in a draw against Queretaro on Matchday 5.
Paulo Pezzolano leaving the club and Guillermo Almada taking over as the manager was one of their pre-Clausura changes. The move has worked wonders, as they’ve turned things around after finishing 15th in the Apertura season.
After finishing with just four wins in 17 matches in the Apertura, The Gophers have already picked up six wins in their opening eight matches. With the Clausura already entering the business end, Almada will be hoping that the players keep winning on the pitch.
They have scored 17 goals in the Clausura – joint-most with their opponents this weekend. Pachuca are solid at the back and have conceded just 8 goals, but the manager will be looking to improve that as they look to protect this incredible underdog run.
Pachuca dominated their game against Atlas this week, but struggled to get on the scoresheet despite taking 26 shots, of which only 5 were on target. However, Roberto de la Rosa did get the decisive goal in the 87th minute to keep their run on top of the table going.
Tigres UANL missed out on a golden chance to top the table this week after they were held by Cruz Azul in a 2-2 draw midweek. It will have particularly hurt them that they conceded both goals during the additional time in both halves after having taken the lead early.
Tigres UANL dominated proceedings and were out in full flow from the start. They scored early in the game via their top scorer, French veteran André-Pierre Gignac, and went on to double their lead in the 30th minute. Juan Pablo Vigon found the back of the net, and it looked like things were set to go their way – with their fans roaring in the stands and Cruz Arul caught completely off guard within half an hour.
But Tigres’ performance fell off from there, and the away side came back to snatch a point, break some hearts, and push them to 3rd in the league table. The draw was the third time Tigres UANL have dropped points in the Clausura.
