Tigres UANL vs Club Necaxa Prediction

Tigres UANL and Club Necaxa have drawn three of their last five meetings, with both taking one win each in the other two matches. The home side are currently in better form and should be able to get the win this week.

Tigres UNAL have won three of their last five matches and just missed out on automatic qualification for the quarterfinals. They ended the league phase with 30 points – two behind Pachuca, who took the fourth spot in the table.

Club Necaxa had to rely on Atletico de San Luis dropping points to make it to the top 12. They went winless in their last five matches and ended with 19 points. They would have finished outside the playoff spots if San Luis, Club Tijuana, or Mazatlan won their final game of the league phase.

With knockout stages upon us, both teams will be keen on putting the past behind and refocusing on what is ahead. The match should be a close contest, as most have been between these two sides, and could end up having a late winner in the game.

Tigres UANL Go Into The Game As The Favorites

Tigres UANL are the team in form when compared with Club Necaxa and should get going in as the favorites. They will not be too bothered about the head-to-head in recent matches as the opponents are low on confidence.

Tigres just missed out on the top 4 spot and will be looking to make the most of their chances and ease into the quarterfinals. They won three of their last five matches this season after a slump in form during the middle of the season.

In case of a draw this week, Tigres UNAL would go through to the next round as they finished higher in the league table.

Tigres UANL’s Recent Form Has Been Inconsistent

Tigres UANL have not been at their best since they defeated Queteraro in gameweek six, back in July. They were on a five-match winning run back then, but have not won two matches in a row since.

In the last six matches, they have three wins and as many losses, while the three prior to them were draws against Club Necaxa, Monterrey, and Pumas UNAM.

Tigres UANL’s Last Win Over Club Necaxa Was Back In Apertura 2020

Tigres UANL have not been able to beat Club Necaxa in the recent four meetings, and their last win in this fixture was back in 2020. They had a comfortable outing on that occasion and defeated the home side 3-0.

André-Pierre Gignac handed Tigres UNAL the lead in the 13th minute of the match, while Eduardo Vargas doubled the lead before half-time. The away side were utterly dominant in the first 45 as they allowed just one shot to Club Necaxa, and that too did not result on target.

The home side did better in the second half but could not do much in front of the goal. They got seven shots, but only one was on target and was easily saved.

Gignac got on the scoresheet again for Tigres UNAL to seal the win with 12 minutes left. The 3rd goal, and the Frenchman’s second, was enough for them to leave Estadio Victoria with all three points.

Club Necaxa Crawl Into The Playoffs At The End

Club Necaxa started the season in fine fashion with four wins in their opening seven matches. They were straight away one of the favorites to finish in the top 4 this season as the top sides were finding it hard to get the momentum going.

However, their form dripped, and they ended up with just one win in the last 10 matches of the league phase. They had to depend on the results of other sides below them to seal their place in the top 12 after losing three of their last five matches.

Club Necaxa’s Form Leaves Them Dependent On Others

Club Necaxa needed four points in their last five matches to seal a place in the top 12, but could not manage a single victory. They lost to Santos Laguna and Club America to start things off and then ended up losing to Atlas on the final day of the season.

Atlas had managed to win just twice this season until then, despite being the defending champions. Gaddi Aguirre got the lone goal of the match to help the home side win, but still only managed to finish second from the bottom.

Luckily for Necaxa, Atletico de San Luis were beaten 3-0 by Tigres UNAL on the final day of the season. The side they face this week in the reclassification round as the reason they managed to get into the playoffs.

Mazatlan, who finished 2 places and 2 points off Necaxa, also had the chance to make it to the top 12. However, they lost to Santos Laguna on the final day and could not move above Necaxa in the table.

Club Tijuana were the only side in the battle to gain points on the final day of the season. However, they drew 2-2 by Club Leon and that was not enough as they too finished two points off Necaxa and out of the playoff spots.

Club Necaxa’s Last Win Over Tigres Was Earlier This Year In Clausura

Tigres UNAL were flying high in Clausura this year, but still ended up losing to Club Necaxa. The defeat ended the hopes of the away side to finish on top of the league, and they had to settle for second.

Club Necaxa needed the win at all costs as they were battling to make it into the top 12. The win was one of the three they got in the last four matches of the league phase to help them finish 9th.

Tigres UANL dominated the match, but they could not do much with the 62% possession they had. They managed to get 16 shots away, but only two were on target, and they ended up losing the match.

Necaxa scored two goals in the first 25 minutes of the match and then sat back to defend in the whole game. Rodrigo Aguirre scored the opener in the 7th minute, while Alonso Escoboza doubled soon after.

Necaxa had just one shot in the second half, which was not on target. However, it did not matter in the end as they walked away with the win thanks to the two goals in the first half.
