Tigres are going in for the title this season and are on a stunning run. They have lost just once in their last 11 matches and won 9 of those games. They are still second in the league table and will be keen on getting a few goals under their belt to bolster their goal difference.
On the other hand, Toluca are not at their best but have been getting a few results going its way. Moreover, they will be confident going into their game against Tigres as they have often beaten them in their recent meetings.
The last time there was a draw between these two sides was back in 2016, and it ended goallessly. That is not a highly probable event this weekend, and Tigres are expected to come out comfortable winners.
Tigres made a poor start to the season with a draw and a loss in their opening two matches. However, they have managed to turn things around and are now on a brilliant run of form. Miguel Herrera’s side are dominating their opponents in all matches and are getting the goals needed as well.
Their attack has been ruthless, and none of their forwards have any issues in taking shots on target. They take 2 out 3 of their shots from outside the box and have scored 4 times from them. The conversion rate drops drastically, but Herrera will be pleased to see his forwards ready to take their half chances too.
Tigres have been excellent around the opposition box and have been creating 2.5 big chances per game. They manage to make the most of them as well and have scored 26 goals in their 13 matches in the Clausura season – only two of which have been via penalties and none directly from a free kick.
The defense has not been at its best this season as they have managed just four clean sheets in their 13 games. Averaging a goal per game is not ideal for a title chasing side, but Tigres have been managing it because their attackers are scoring a lot on the other end. Moreover, they have made two crucial errors that have led to goals – something they have been working on in the recent games.
In the last five matches, Tigres have scored nine goals while conceding just thrice. However, they slipped up against Pachuca – their title rivals – and lost 2-1 earlier this month. The loss could prove to be crucial as Pachuca took the top spot away from them with it, and they need to depend on other teams to get an unlikely result against the title contenders to try and wrestle that spot back.
Tigres will be without Hugo Ayala and Yeferson Soteldo for their upcoming matches, as both players were sent off in the 1-0 win over Querétaro last weekend. The center-back was sent off in the first half for violent conduct and will be sitting out of the next three matches, while the winger got sent off for taking his shirt off after scoring the winner. He was already on a booking, and the unnecessary celebration cost him dearly as he will be missing the match this weekend against Toluca.

Toluca were one of the favorites to finish in the top 6 and were even touted to get automatic qualification for the quarter-final at the start of the season. However, their inconsistent form has been an issue, and that has seen them sitting 8th in the table and in danger of falling out of the playoffs spots.
Marcos Ignacio Ambriz Espinoza’s side have won just twice in their last 9 matches – after winning three of their first four games. They have picked up just 9 points in those matches – the same as they got in the first four matches.
Toluca seemed to have gotten their mojo back with a win over Club Necaxa early in March, but the form dipped dramatically since then. The 1-0 win, thanks to an early goal by Camilo Sanvezzo, turned out to be a one-off situation rather than a turn for the good.
Pachuca defeated Toluca 3-0 in the next game week, but that was not an unexpected result. Víctor Guzmán, Nicolás Ibáñez, and Yairo Moreno got on the scoresheet for the league leaders as the home side could not threaten their opponents much despite having the same number of shots on target.
Things got worse in the following game as Club America, who were struggling to get points, ended up dominating Toluca. The home side took a stunning 3-0 lead in the first 18 minutes of the game, and the away players were left stunned. Despite Roger Martínez, Diego Valdés, and Alejandro Zendejas getting on the scoresheet early, they did not sit back and relax – making things more difficult for Toluca, who failed to get a single shot on target in the game.
They finally managed to turn things around with a win over Puebla, who were one of the unlikely title favorites a few weeks into the start of the season. Kevin Castañeda and Valber Huerta got on the scoresheet in the first half before Israel Reyes pulled one back for the visitors – but the momentum did not shift, and Toluca managed to hold on for the win.
However, they have dropped points once again in their last two matches with draws against Monterrey and Guadalajara – leaving them 4 points off the top 4 and just two points above the final playoffs spot.
