Tigres UANL vs Santos Laguna Predictions

Tigres UANL have been the better side on paper when compared with Santos Laguna, but the results have not gone their way. They have won just once in the last five meetings while losing twice.

However, the last time Santos Laguna defeated Tigres UNAL in the Apertura was back in the 2018 edition. They did not dominate possession in the game, but managed to be clinical and won 3-1. André-Pierre Gignac missed the chance to hand Tigres UNAL an early lead as he missed his penalty in the 9th minute. Julio Furch scored for Santos Laguna in the 34th minute, and they managed to hold on to the lead until halftime.

Tigres UNAL were awarded another penalty in the 53nd minute, and Eduardo Vargas stepped up to take it just minutes after coming on. He made no mistake, and the scores were level for a short time.

Santos Laguna restored their lead in the 59th minute via Jonathan Rodríguez, and he doubled his tally by adding another six minutes later. Tigres were handed their third penalty of the game in the 80th minute, but this time Eduardo Vargas could not convert, and they ended up losing 3-1.

The last time Tigres UNAL defeated Santos Laguna was in the Apertura last season. The two sides clashed in the quarterfinal, and the home side went through after winning the second leg 1-0.

The last meeting between Tigres UNAL and Santos Laguna was in Clausura earlier this year. The match took place in January and it ended in a 1-1 draw. Brian Lozano handed Santos Laguna the lead in the 50th minute and Tigres UNAL needed a stoppage time goal from Carlos Salcedo to equalize.

Tigres UANL In Good Form After Shock Start To Season

Tigres UNAL finished 2nd in the Clausura league table last season, after failing to win their last three matches. They finished 5 points behind Pachuca and were looking to close the gap this season. In the knockout stages, they managed to make it to the semi-final but were beaten by Atlas.

Jordy Caicedo and Vladimir Loroña have been signed to bolster the squad, while Jesús Garza got promoted from the U20 side. Carlos González, Julián Quiñones and Jesús Dueñas have been sold along with Jair Díaz, and Aldo Cruz. Érick Ávalos is no longer with the squad after he was released.

They could not off to the best of starts this season despite playing the first match at home. They were up against Cruz Azul, and Santiago Giménez scored a 93rd-minute penalty to help the away side seal a 3-2 win.

Tigres did well to bounce back from the loss and went on a five-match winning streak. They conceded just once in those matches, which were filled with red cards too. Six red cards were shown in those five matches – four to Tigres players, and the other two to their opponents.

The winning streak started with a 1-0 victory over Mazatlan. André-Pierre Gignac scored the lone goal of the match in the 7th minute, and the home side could not do much to make a comeback.

They followed it up with another 1-0, this time over Club Tijuana but needed a late winner from Raymundo Fulgencio. Atlas were up next for Tigres UNAL, and they managed to beat them 2-0. Jesús Angulo and André-Pierre Gignac scored the goals as the away side could not do much after being reduced to 10 men in the 6th minute.

Wins over Juarez and Queretaro followed for Tigres, but the 5-match winning run came to an end earlier this month. Pachuca defeated them 2-0 with Jesús Angulo getting sent off for Tigres.

Jesús Angulo is suspended for the upcoming game against Santos Laguna, but no player is ruled out injured.

Santos Laguna Off To Mixed Start But Better Than Clausura

Santos Laguna had a Clausura season to forget earlier this year after they failed to make it to the playoffs. They finished the season with just 5 wins from the 17 matches and lost seven times.

With the aim to get back to their best, Cecilio Domínguez was lured in on a free transfer, while José Lozano was signed from Atlas. Juan Brunetta has been loaned in for the season, with Omar Campos and Jordán Carrillo getting promoted from the U20 side.

Adrián Lozano and Joel García have been sold in the summer, while Ulises Rivas has been released. Brian Lozano, Ignacio Jeraldino, Jesús Ocejo and Jordán Carrillo are out on loan this season.

Their season was off to a good start as they managed to beat Monterrey in their Apertura opener. Brian Lozano scored from the spot in the 91st minute to seal the win after they managed to come back from – once from 2-0 and then from 3-2 to win the game.

Rogelio Funes Mori and Rodrigo Aguirre handed the away side the lead in the 21st minute, but could not make it to halftime with the lead intact. Fernando Gorriarán scored from the spot, while Félix Torres equalized in the 34th minute to level things up before halftime.

Rogelio Funes Mori got on the scoresheet again for Monterrey in the 67th minute, after they were awarded a penalty by VAR. Harold Preciado scored the equalizer with 5 minutes to go in the game before Brian Lozano sealed the win from the spot in the 91st minute.

Their winning start should have given them enough confidence to on a good run, but that did not happen. They lost their next match to Puebla, and then drew to Guadalajara. They were once again beaten when they took on Toluca in game week five. The 2-1 loss was a decent result for Santos Laguna on the scoresheet, as they were dominated from the start by Toluca.

Santos managed to bounce back well in the next match and defeated Atlas at home. Juan Brunetta scored the lone goal of the game right at the hour mark and that was enough to seal all three points for the home team.

Santos were full of confidence after the win and they went on to thrash Cruz Azul in the next game. Javier Correa, Hugo Rodríguez, Eduardo Aguirre and Carlos Orrantia got on the scoresheet as they took a 4-0 lead before the hour mark and sealed the win. They walked away with all three points and gave the opponents no chance of making a comeback.
