Best MLB Bets This Weekend, September 2-3, 2023

Multiple rivalries will be renewed this weekend in Major League Baseball, from an American League rivalry to a division matchup in the National League West. Those rivalry games will headline our best MLB bets this weekend, as there are several chances to pick some winners in those games.

Our first MLB best bet for this weekend is for the Houston Astros to beat the New York Yankees and cover the runline in the process. The Astros lost to the Yankees on Friday night, but they should bounce back in this contest. With a pitching advantage that should help their offense get back on track, look for the Astros to have a big game on Saturday night at home.

Luis Severino is pitching for the Yankees, who has had a rough year to say the least since coming back from injury. Severino comes into this weekend with a record of 4-8 and an ERA of 6.64 for 2023. He has given up 20 home runs in just over 80 innings of work, averaging over two home runs per nine innings of work, which will not bode well for him against an Astros team with the potential to hit for so much power.

San Francisco Giants vs San Diego Padres

Odds courtesy of FanDuel Sportsbook.

My Pick: Padres -1.5 (+116)

Next up, we go to the NL West, where the San Diego Padres host the San Francisco Giants at Petco Park. The Padres should also have a pitching advantage that will help them to win on Saturday night, as Blake Snell takes the hill against Kyle Harrison of the Giants. Look for Snell to deliver once again and for the Padres to cover the runline as a favorite to close out the Saturday portion of our best bets for the weekend.

Snell has been nothing short of incredible this season, going 11-9 with a league-best 2.60 ERA. At home in this contest, he should be able to help the Padres put this game out of reach before the bullpens get involved, which have been a weakness for the Padres this season. With Snell on the hill, the woeful bullpen of the Padres will not be a factor for a change.

Baltimore Orioles vs Arizona Diamondbacks

My Pick: Diamondbacks Moneyline (-125)

Last up on our list of the best MLB bets this weekend is the matchup between the Baltimore Orioles and Arizona Diamondbacks. While this is not a rivalry game like the other two matchups on our list, there is plenty of intrigue involved. Arizona’s pitching should be able to see them through in this game, though, as the D-Backs will win this contest to help the Cy Young candidacy of their ace.

Zac Gallen is on the mound for this game, and he has been incredible at home all year long. He is 11-1 at home on the year, claiming 11 of his 14 victories on the season at Chase Field. He will continue to dominate on his home field in this game, to where even the potent lineup of the Orioles will be unable to respond.
