Best MLB Bets Today: Angels vs. Orioles (4:05 PM, EST)

Orioles -1.5 (# at BetMGM Sportsbook)

While the odds aren’t great, this is the best bet of the weekend. The matchup features a great Orioles team taking on an awful Angels squad. The Orioles have the advantage on the mound, at the plate, and in the field. If that wasn’t enough, they’ll also have home-field advantage.

The Orioles were far better than the Angels last season, and that gap has only widened since. Shohei Ohtani is gone, taking away the team’s top pitcher and batter. As good as Mike Trout is, he won’t get much in the way of support. Trout also can’t help the team’s abysmal pitching staff, which may be the worst in baseball (outside of Oakland). They’ll send Griffin Canning to the mound tonight, who went 7-8 with a 4.58 ERA in 2023.

The Orioles lineup is loaded with talent, but we love tonight’s starter: Grayson Rodriguez. The 23-year-old went 7-4 with a 4.35 ERA in his rookie season, and many expect him to break out in 2024. He will have a great chance to do so today against an Angels lineup that ranks among the worst in the AL.

Rays ML(-130 at BetMGM)

The loss of Wander Franco is a brutal blow to the Tampa lineup, but this is still a very good lineup. Randy Arozarena, Brandon Low, and Yandy Diaz are from a great top of the lineup, but time will tell how the rest of the offense will fare. While that has us doubting their chances in the AL, we think they have the edge against Toronto tonight.

The biggest reason we like the Rays’ moneyline is the pitching matchup. Toronto will send Yusei Kikuchi to the mound. The 32-year-old is coming off the best season of his career, but he struggled against the Rays last season. That includes two September starts in which Kikuchi gave up 14 hits and six runs across nine innings. Those games were after Fracno’s exit from the team, meaning the damage was done by their current lineup.

The Rays will start Zack Littell tonight. The reliever turned spot starter is a solid back-end of the rotation option, as the Jays learned last season. Little faced the Blue Jays at home at the end of last season, allowing two unearned runs across 5 ⅔ innings. While he didn’t have that success when in Toronto, we are confident he can replicate his success at home.

Over

In addition to a Rays win, we see a lot of runs scored. Kikuchi has shown he can give up offense against this Tampa lineup, and both bullpens have some weaknesses. With a couple of games already under their belts, the offenses should find their groove and deliver an impressive performance on Saturday.
