My Pick: Over 9.5

The Texas Rangers have once again taken a lead in the World Series after a 3-1 win in Game 3. Of course, the Diamondbacks have always seemed to bounce back from trouble, so they have a chance to pull even with a win in Game 4. The problem is that the Rangers are still undefeated on the road during the playoffs. The other issue is that Game 4 will be a bullpen game for both teams, adding more mystery to the game. With both sides planning to empty out their bullpen without a reliable starter available, this could be yet another high-scoring game. With two of the first three games of this series ending with at least 10 total runs, the best bet might be the same thing happening in Game 4.

To be fair, Andrew Heaney is actually a starting pitcher who could give the Rangers some depth, especially after they needed six innings from their bullpen in Game 3. Jon Gray, another starter, threw three of those innings, so that’s one less bullpen arm who can give them some depth. Heaney hasn’t pitched much since the ALDS and has a troubling history against the top of Arizona’s lineup, so it could be an early exit for him. Despite their poor showing in Game 3, there’s no denying that the Diamondbacks are capable of flexing their offensive muscles. Against a parade of Texas relievers, the D’Backs should be able to churn out a few runs and contribute to at least 10 total runs being scored in Game 4.

Likewise, it’d be unusual if the Rangers didn’t contribute in a high-scoring game. It’s been surprising to see them held to just 10 total runs over the first three games of the series. But they might be poised for a breakout game. Adolis Garcia is having a historic postseason from a power perspective, while Corey Seager, Evan Carter, and others have been productive as well. Plus, Texas has 26 home runs in 15 playoff games, so the Rangers can hit the long ball at any time. We know that Joe Mantiply will start for Arizona, but it’s anybody’s guess who pitches after that. While the Arizona bullpen has been strong late in games, the Diamondbacks don’t have a lot of reliable middle relievers or long men, which could contribute to the Rangers putting more than a few runs on the board in Game 4, helping make Game 4 a high-scoring affair.
