The Baltimore Orioles host one of the worst pitching teams in the league as the Oakland A’s have given up 23 home runs through 12 games. Adam Oller is set to start at pitcher for the A’s on Thursday. He has given up two home runs this season inn 9.2 innings pitched.
Orioles first baseman Ryan Mountcastle has been the team’s big power hitter and big playmaker in the batting game. He leads Baltimore in home runs accounted for with five and 18 RBIs. Mountcastle also leads the team in strikeouts this season at 15. He is a player that is going for the big hits.
With the Orioles facing the worst team in the AL, there is a solid chance that Mountcastle will get some great opportunities for his sixth home run of the season.

One of the biggest surprises of the 2023 MLB Season is the emergence of the Tampa Bay Rays and their undefeated record at 12-0. A big reason for that is the highly efficient pitching of the Rays including Jeffrey Spring, who is set to start on Thursday against the Boston Red Sox.
Springs has delivered 19 strikeouts through 13 innings this season. He is one of four pitchers for the Rays that have delivered at least 12 strikeouts through 12 games. It should be no surprise that Tampa Bay is ranked first in the AL in the fewest hits allowed (75), runs allowed (27), home runs allowed (5) and walks allowed (28).
They face a Red Sox team that has talent and potential, but they haven’t gotten the results they wanted this season. Boston is second in strikeouts this season, but three of their best batters have encountered double-digit strikeouts in 12 games this season.

One of the best games in Thursday’s lineup is set to feature two of the top teams in the AL between the New York Yankees (8-4) and the Minnesota Twins (8-4). The Twins have one of the most efficient pitching lineups in the AL, just behind the Tampa Bay Rays. Minnesota is first in the AL in hits allowed (75), second in runs allowed (32), and first in walks allowed (28).
The Yankees are a team that makes big hits and big plays such as a home run from centerfielder Aaron Judge or a designated hitter. One of the most reliable batters for the Yankees is right fielder Franchy Cordero, who leads the team in RBIs accounted for (11).
With a tough pitching team like the Twins, the Yankees will need players to get on base and for other players like Cordero to get his teammates home.

Of all the games being played on Thursday, the biggest matchup is set between the Toronto Blue Jays (8-4), a serious World Series contender, and the Detroit Tigers, one of the worst teams in the MLB. Toronto ranks first in the AL in hits accounted for this season with 125. The Tigers’ pitching team has given up 102 hits, which is ranked sixth in the AL, but they have delivered only 68 strikeouts, last in the AL.
The Blue Jays have great hitters this season with three players accounting for 18 or more hits this season. Third baseman Matt Chapman, first baseman Vladimir Guerrero Jr. and shortstop Bo Bichette are all capable of hitting three or more pitches in this game, but Chapman is currently on an impressive rhythm.
Chapman has accounted for nine hits in the last four games and has accounted for at least two hits. In the previous two games against the Tigers, Chapman has accounted for four hits, one double-baser hit, one home run, one RBI, and one walk and has only stuck out once. Chapman has an incredible batting average of .489 through 12 games this season.

The Pittsburgh Pirates have been a tough time to face this season with their roster being efficient throughout the field. The St. Louis Cardinals will likely catch a break on Thursday as the Pirates are set for Vince Velasquez to start. Velasquez has had a rough start to the season by allowing 11 hits, eight runs, and five walks and only delivering four strikeouts in 7.1 innings this season.
Cardinals first baseman Paul Goldschmidt has been one of the most consistent hitters in the MLB this season. He has accounted for a team-high 16 hits, a team-high double-base hits, a team-high 10 walks, a team-high batting average of .364 and a team-high on-base percentage of .491.
In other words, he knows how to create hits and to get on base. Goldschmidt should have no problem finding a rhythm with Velasquez pitching to him.
