Best MLB Player Props August 25 2023

With MLB prop bets, there are so many angles that can be utilized in each game. Fortunately, we have narrowed down those angles for Friday’s slate of games. In our best MLB prop bets for Friday, we look at a couple of pitcher props, as well as a home run prop that is certainly live at a plus price.

Houston Astros vs Detroit Tigers

My Pick: Framber Valdez to record the win (+130 at PointsBet)

Our first prop bet for the Friday MLB slate is for Framber Valdez to record the win for the Houston Astros against the Detroit Tigers. Houston is on the road for this contest, but they are 11 games above .500 for the season away from Minute Maid Park. Expect their success on the road to continue here, as Valdez should be able to deliver a victory against a hapless Tigers squad.

Valdez is just 9-9 on the season, hence his price to pick up the win here being at plus money. But he does have a solid 3.55 ERA and is allowing under a hit per inning on the season thus far. Against a Tigers team that has been anything but convincing offensively during the 2023 season, Valdez should not get roughed up and should be in a position to win this game when he exits.

Working in the favor of Valdez in this spot is the knowledge of the Astros that they cannot take the Tigers lightly. Houston dropped two of three to the Tigers to start their season series this year. With the Astros fighting for the AL West championship, they will know that they cannot afford to continue struggling against a team like Detroit, and we should see them come out locked in as a result.

Los Angeles Dodgers vs Boston Red Sox

My Pick: Lance Lynn over 5.5 hits allowed (-125 at DraftKings)

Next up, we look at another pitcher prop, this time in the interleague matchup between the Los Angeles Dodgers and Boston Red Sox. Lance Lynn has been all over the place this season, and that trend should continue against a Boston team fighting for its playoff life. Here, expect Lynn to allow at least six hits and for him to go over the hit total listed above.

Lynn has actually done a spectacular job of staying under this hit total since coming to the Dodgers from the Chicago White Sox. He has allowed five or fewer hits in each of his four outings since being traded to Los Angeles. But that trend should come to an end on Friday night against the Red Sox, thanks to a combination of the Boston offense and the structure of the ballpark.

Hits are easier to come by in Fenway Park than they are in most other parks, thanks to the short left field fence, and high wall. Those things combine for more hits for right-handed batters on a regular basis. Look for that to drive up the hit total for Lynn in this contest, as the Red Sox should have a real chance to win their third game in a row here.

Cincinnati Reds vs Arizona Diamondbacks

My Pick: Elly De La Cruz to hit a home run (+460 at FanDuel)

Last up on our list of MLB prop bets for Friday is the crucial Wild Card matchup between the Cincinnati Reds and Arizona Diamondbacks. After a low-scoring game between these two teams on Thursday, we should see more from the bats in both lineups on Friday. Included in that will be more production from Elly De La Cruz, who is worth a shout to hit a home run at +460 in this matchup.

The Reds as a whole should see more offensive production in this game, as they go from facing Merrill Kelly on Thursday to Brandon Pfaadt on Friday. Pfaadt has really struggled on the mound for the Diamondbacks this season, going 0-6 with a 6.13 ERA. His struggles should mean prosperity for De La Cruz, who is one of the best young stars in baseball today.
