Best MLB Prop Bets Today | MLB Player Props September 6
While the focus in Major League Baseball is on the pennant races going on around the league, the MLB prop markets are still alive and well. On Wednesday, there are several games that carry playoff implications that also have value in the prop markets. Here, we run down some of those props worth taking.
Seattle Mariners vs Cincinnati Reds
My Pick: Logan Gilbert to record the win (+115 at PointsBet)
First up, we look at the matchup between the Seattle Mariners and Cincinnati Reds. Seattle has to keep winning to keep their hopes of making the playoffs alive, as they have worked their way into a tight AL West title race with the Houston Astros and Texas Rangers. Here, we like them to get the win, and for starting pitcher Logan Gilbert to get the winning decision in this matchup with Cincinnati.
So far this season, Gilbert has been great, even if George Kirby has been the ace of the starting staff in Seattle. He has gone 12-5 with a 3.56 ERA, and has been just the quality number two starter that this team has needed to get back into playoff contention. Look for Gilbert to continue to deal at a high level in this game against a Cincinnati team that has fallen apart over the last couple of months of the season.
Incredibly, the Reds have scored more runs this season than the Mariners have by a slim margin. But most of those runs came in the first half of the season, when the Reds were one of the most impressive offensive teams in baseball. Now that they have cooled down a bit, expect the Reds to struggle with Gilbert en route to a 13th win on the season for the Mariners starter.
St. Louis Cardinals vs Atlanta Braves
My Pick: Cardinals over 3.5 runs scored (-110 at DraftKings)

Another pitcher who has done great things this season is Spencer Strider of the Atlanta Braves, who has been a contender for the NL Cy Young award for most of this year. However, Strider has fallen off a bit lately, and is no longer one of the favorites to win that award. Thanks to his recent struggles, we like the over on the team total for the Cardinals in their game against Strider and the Braves on Wednesday.
Strider is 16-4 on the season so far, but he is coming off of a game where he allowed four runs in six innings to the Los Angeles Dodgers. He also gave up six runs in just under three innings against the Pittsburgh Pirates in the month of August. His struggles could very well continue in this game against a Cardinals team that is capable of making things happen offensively.
Offense has not been the problem for the Cardinals for most of this season anyway, as their pitching staff has been the area where the team has struggled. St. Louis still has plenty of talented bats to rely on in games like this one, and they should not go quietly into the Atlanta night here. Look for them to put at least four runs on the board here to cash this team total prop bet.
Houston Astros vs Texas Rangers
My Pick: First five innings under 4.5 runs (-125 at FanDuel)

Last up in our list of MLB prop bets for Wednesday is the all-Texas matchup between the Houston Astros and Texas Rangers. The pitching matchup for this game is simply tantalizing, as Max Scherzer and Justin Verlander are set to take the mound in this crucial game in the AL West. Look for both pitchers to go all-in here to help their teams, and for us to get a low-scoring first five innings as a result.
Both of these pitchers started the season with the New York Mets, and are hoping to make the playoffs with other teams instead. Verlander is 10-7 with a 3.34 ERA for the year, while Scherzer is 12-5 with an ERA of 3.55. Both have dramatically improved their numbers from where they were early in the season, and both lineups should struggle to put bat on ball against them in what should be the game of the day on the diamond.
