Best MLB Player Props September 15 2023

There are several interesting matchups to attack in the MLB player prop markets on Friday. From key division games to games that are expected to be blowouts, we have scoured the best betting markets and come up with three props that are worth playing on the diamond going into the weekend.

Atlanta Braves vs Miami Marlins

My Pick: Bryce Elder to record the win (+140 at PointsBet)

Our first MLB prop bet to consider for Friday is for Bryce Elder to record the win in the Braves vs Marlins game on Friday night. Elder comes into that game with a huge advantage over the starting pitcher of the Marlins. Look for him to take advantage of that en route to picking up his 13th win of the 2023 regular season.

Facing Elder in this game is Johnny Cueto, who has looked nothing like the Johnny Cueto of old this season. Cueto is 1-4 on the season so far, posting a 6.15 ERA in limited action for the Marlins. He has given up 12 home runs in 41 innings of work, which is going to be a problem against a Braves team that is capable of doing so much from a power hitting perspective.

On top of that, an Elder win would be huge for the Braves and their playoff positioning at this point in time. Atlanta is closing in on the top spot in the National League, and clinching that would mean clinching home-field advantage through the playoffs. Look for Elder to come out dealing in this game, and for him to get the win to help the Braves move one step closer to achieving that goal.

Houston Astros vs Kansas City Royals

My Pick: Cristian Javier under 2.5 earned runs allowed (-125 at DraftKings)

Next up, look for Cristian Javier to have a strong start on the road on Friday night, as the Houston Astros take on the Kansas City Royals. The Royals have been among the worst teams in baseball for most of this season, and their lackluster offense is a big reason for that. Javier should be able to take advantage of the offensive woes fo the Royals en route to a start where he allows fewer than three earned runs.

So far this season, the Royals rank in the bottom-five in runs scored on the year. They have scored 601 total runs in 147 games, averaging just over four runs per game for the duration of the season. That number will not improve in this game against the Astros, as Javier will not allow three earned runs in his five or six innings of work in this contest.

New York Yankees vs Pittsburgh Pirates

My Pick: Gerrit Cole over 7.5 strikeouts (+108 at FanDuel)

Our final MLB prop bet for Friday night concerns Gerrit Cole of the New York Yankees. The AL Cy Young award favorite is pitching on the road against the Pittsburgh Pirates, in what should be a fascinating affair in the state of Pennsylvania. Look for Cole to come out dealing in this game, and to strike out at least eight batters, which we will take at plus money.

Cole has struck out 204 batters this season in his 187 innings of work, which equates to over a strikeout per inning. Here, he faces a Pirates team that ranks 11th in the league in strikeouts, as they have struck out nearly 1,300 times as a team. Cole will push them over that mark and will run up a much higher total than his average of around a strikeout per inning here.

Cole also has Cy Young considerations to face on the mound in this game. A great performance in this contest could go a long way toward sealing the award up for himself, and a less-than-stellar offense like that of the Pirates is a great team to do that against. Look for Cole to come out firing from the start of this game to help us hit this prop bet.
