If you don’t know the name of Tobias Myers 97-5, 2.93 ERA, 1.16 WHIP), you should learn it. The rookie wasn’t a top prospect in the minors, but he has been incredible since joining the Brewers this season. After a rough May, Myers has gone 7-3 with a 2.22 ERA.
The Diamondbacks have scored more runs than any other team in the league, but they will be facing Myers for the first time. The 26-year-old has nasty stuff, and it will take time for Arizona to figure him out. The Diamondbacks will challenge Myers, but it will take at least once through the order to have a chance.
Arizona will have Brandon Pfaadt (9-8, 4.42 ERA, 1.22 ERA) starting opposite Myers tonight. The team believes the 25-year-old could be a big part of their future, but he has been terrible since August 1.
While his numbers are ugly, much of that damage is being done the second time through the lineup, where batters are hitting .275 against him. Opponents do not have the same luck when they first see Pfaadt, posting an average of .217.
The Brewers' offense has far outperformed expectations this season, but their batting average is almost 20 points lower since the All-Star break. The loss of Christian Yelich has been taking effect, and it is leading to some quieter first innings during the final stretch of the season.

Jack Flaherty (12-6, 2.86 ERA, 1.01 WHIP) took some time to settle in since being traded to the Dodgers, but he has only allowed a first-inning run in one of those seven starts. The veteran has been back into top form over his first two starts of September, going 2-0 with a 0.69 ERA. Those two starts came against the Diamondbacks and Guardians, both of whom has scored more runs than the Braves.
Speaking of the Braves, their offense has continued to disappoint without Ronald Acuna Jr. They rank eighteenth in batting average and runs scored. Things won’t be getting any better with Marcell Ozuna cooling off, posting a .250 average without a home run or RBI in September.
Atlanta will have their ace on the mound tonight in Chris Sale (16-3, 2.38 ERA, 1.00 WHIP). The 35-year-old has bounced back this season to post one of his most impressive campaigns yet. He is currently riding a 16-inning scoreless streak, which will extend to at least one more inning tonight.
There is no denying that the Dodgers have one of the best lineups in recent memory, but they own a .233 average against Sale. We give the edge to the hot pitcher in the first inning, especially considering that Sale is 9-0 with a 2.33 ERA.
