Best NRFI Bets Today: Expect Shota Imanaga to Cool Off the Padres Bats
Negative regression looms large over the San Diego Padres red hot bats as they are set to face off against the Chicago Cubs Shota Imanaga who excels at avoiding contact. Before their afternoon contest, we turn our attention towards the matchup between the Athletics and Colorado Rockies as Osvaldo Bido and Ryan Feltner get the benefit of throwing against a pair of struggling offenses.

San Diego Padres vs. Chicago Cubs - Randy Vasquez vs. Shota Imanaga (2:20 PM, EST)
Under 0.5 Run (-165) at BetMGM Sportsbook
After falling just short of winning the NL Rookie of the Year award, Shota Imanaga has picked up from where he left off as he finished his first two games of the season with an ERA of 0.82, a WHIP of 0.818, and a FIP of 3.37. Imanaga’s success stems from his ability to avoid contact as the Cubs pitcher has only surrendered three Hits in 11 Innings Pitched. Even while possessing a high Walk Rate, Imanaga has been able to leave them stranded as his low ERA indicates.
His ability to avoid contact will be vital against San Diego as the Padres offense ranks near the top of the board in Team Total Hits, RBIs, Total Runs Scored, and On Base Percentage. Even though they grade out well as a whole, the Padres top of their order are actually vulnerable while Luis Arraez is going through a prolonged cold stretch of play. In seven appearances, Arraez possesses a Batting Average of .148, a OBP of .172, SLG of .259, and OPS of .431.
Like Imanaga, the Padres Randy Vasquez draws a tough assignment as the Cubs offense also ranks top-7 in the same previously mentioned offensive metrics. Fortunately for San Diego, Vasquez excels at keeping opposing runners out of scoring position as he possesses a FIP of 3.83 while averaging less than one Hit against per Inning Pitched. To help further limit the amount of variance in his starts, his defense also ranks fourth overall in Defensive Efficiency.

Athletics vs. Colorado Rockies - Osvaldo Bido vs. Ryan Feltner (4:10 PM, EST)
Under 0.5 Run (-150) at BetMGM Sportsbook
It has been a rough start to the season for the Colorado Rockies as they head into their home opener with a 2-5 record after facing off against a pair of World Series contenders. It’s already apparent the Rockies lack the offensive production needed to be competitive in their contests as their offense currently ranks dead last across the board in Team Total Hits, RBIs, Total Runs Scored, On Base Percentage, and Base on Balls/Walks.
Colorado’s struggles on offense are poised to persist against the Athletics as the A’s Osvaldo Bido averages less than one Hit Against per Inning Pitched and an ERA of 1.80. While his WHIP of 1.400 is a cause for concern, the Rockies inability to make contact helps lessen the chance of Bido getting rocked from the opening pitch. Especially with Jordan Beck struggling in their third spot, leaving the Rockies void of a productive bat at the top of their order.
On the other side of the field, the Rockies Ryan Feltner takes the mound to face off against an Athletics offense who ranks well below league average in On Base Percentage and Batting Average. Even while supported by a back end who grades out poorly in Defensive Efficiency, Feltner has been able to keep opposing runners off the bases with his own individual production as the Rockies pitcher currently averages a WHIP of 1.000 and ERA of 3.60.

Arizona Diamondbacks vs. Washington Nationals - Brandon Pfaadt vs. Jake Irvin - After finishing his season debut with a WHIP of 1.800, Jake Irvin will continue to struggle with keeping opposing runners off the bases as he faces off against an Arizona Diamondbacks offense who ranks ninth overall in Team Total Hits and fourth in On Base Percentage.
Baltimore Orioles vs. Kansas City Royals - Dean Kremer vs. Seth Lugo - Even with their star batter Gunnar Henderson out with an injury, the Baltimore Orioles offense possesses more than enough talent to capitalize on Seth Lugo’s lack of command as the Kansas City Royals pitcher has struggled with avoiding contact since the start of Spring Training.
