With the San Diego Padres residing near the bottom of the board in most offensive metrics, positive regression looms large over Aaron Nola who has struggled to find his footing this season. Shortly after their opening pitch, we turn our attention towards Joey Cantillo with the Cleveland Guardians pitcher facing off against the New York Yankees who make contact at a low rate.

Best NRFI Bets Today 2026 06 02 Padres Randy Vasquez

San Diego Padres vs. Philadelphia Phillies - Randy Vasquez vs.Aaron Nola (6:40 PM, EST)

Expect no Runs to be scored in the first inning with Randy Vasquez and Aaron Nola exploiting a pair of offenses who rank dead last in Hit Rate.

Under 0.5 Run (+100) at BetMGM Sportsbook

It has been a turbulent start to the year for Aaron Nola, kicking off his 2026 campaign with an ERA of 5.72, a WHIP of 1.447, and a FIP of 4.35. Even during his cold stretch of play, Nola has still been able to generate Whiffs at a high rate, averaging one Strikeout per Inning Pitched.

Luckily for Nola, he will have a great opportunity to round back into competitive form against the San Diego Padres by taking advantage of an offense who ranks dead last in Hit Rate and 29th in On Base Percentage. With the Padres incapable of making contact, Nola will be able to keep them off the bases, increasing his chances of keeping a clean sheet.

Randy Vasquez on the other hand has been far more productive this season, averaging an ERA of 3.28 while giving up less than one Hit Against per inning. With Philadelphia grading out just as equally as poor as the Padres in Hit Rate, Vasquez will be able to continue to attack the plate while avoiding contact and hold the Phillies scoreless in the first inning.

Cleveland Guardians vs. New York Yankees - Joey Cantillo vs. Cam Schlittler (7:05 PM, EST)

With the New York Yankees struggling to make contact, the Cleveland Guardians Joey Cantillo will be able to build on his momentum by making quick work of the top of their order.

Under 0.5 Run (-125) at BetMGM Sportsbook

Even though the New York Yankees are listed as one of the betting favorites to win the World Series, their offense has struggled to look the part, ranking below league average in Hit Rate. Despite these concerning underlying metrics, the team's World Series odds remain remarkably high due to their elite pitching and star power. Their lack of contact leaves them vulnerable to falling into prolonged scoring lulls, forcing them to play in high variance contests.

In a tough matchup against the Cleveland Guardians, expect the Yankees struggles on offense to continue to persist as they battle it out against Joey Cantillo who is averaging an ERA of 3.57 while generating less than one Hit Against per inning. Especially with his back end narrowing the width of the Yankees gaps in coverage, surrounding Cantillo with an outfield who ranks in the top-10 in Fielding Percentage.

On the other side of the field, Cam Schlittler is projected to get the start, a contender for the AL Cy Young award who is averaging an ERA of 1.50 and a WHIP of 0.847. His dominant stats have heavily influenced the current AL Cy Young award odds, making him a clear favorite. With the Guardians also struggling to get into scoring position by barreling up the ball, expect Schlittler to continue to create Whiffs at a high rate and exit the first inning without giving up a Run.
