Blue Jays vs. Braves - Mason Fluharty vs. Chris Sale

Atlanta enters this matchup against Toronto looking to continue stretching their lead in the National League.

Chris Sale has been outstanding this season, posting an 8-3 record with a stellar 2.01 ERA and 0.94 WHIP. The veteran left-hander has struck out 80 batters while consistently keeping opposing offenses from generating early momentum. 

His ability to miss bats and limit traffic on the bases makes him one of the most trustworthy first-inning pitchers in baseball.

Toronto will counter with Mason Fluharty, who has quietly delivered respectable numbers despite limited experience as a starter. He is a reliever, so he is used to high-leverage innings. 

Fluharty has a 3.97 ERA with 30 strikeouts across 22.2 innings pitched. While his 1.37 WHIP leaves some room for improvement, his strikeout ability gives him a path to navigate the top of Atlanta's lineup.

Padres vs. Phillies - Lucas Giolito vs. Zack Wheeler

Whenever Zack Wheeler takes the mound, NRFI bettors immediately have a reason to pay attention. We’re in for a treat with this pitching matchup.

The Phillies ace has been dominant once again, carrying a 4-1 record with a 2.27 ERA and an elite 0.85 WHIP. Wheeler has allowed only 28 hits over 43.2 innings while striking out 40 batters and issuing just nine walks. 

His ability to attack hitters early in counts has made him one of the most efficient starters in baseball.

San Diego sends Lucas Giolito to the mound. While the surface numbers aren't as impressive, there are reasons to believe he can survive the opening frame. 

Giolito has surrendered just 10 hits across 12.2 innings and has enough veteran experience to work around occasional command issues.

The veteran experience for both pitchers give me confidence they’ll find a way to have a scoreless first inning.

Guardians vs. Yankees - Slade Cecconi vs. Carlos Rodon

The Yankees and Guardians both have postseason aspirations, and this has been a very competitive series. 

Under 0.5 Run (-120) at DraftKings

Carlos Rodon has settled into a solid rhythm for New York. The left-hander owns a 3.32 ERA through 19 innings while allowing only 12 hits and striking out 20 batters.

Cleveland will hand the ball to Slade Cecconi. His overall numbers aren't ideal, as he enters with a 5.25 ERA and 1.49 WHIP, but he has shown flashes of effectiveness throughout the season. 

Cecconi has recorded 50 strikeouts in 61.2 innings and has generally been better when facing hitters for the first time through the order.

The Yankees possess a dangerous lineup, but Rodon should be able to keep Cleveland off the board in the opening frame. If Cecconi can avoid a costly extra-base hit, he should be fine against the Yankees.

• Red Sox vs. Orioles - Brayan Bello vs. Trevor Rogers: The Red Sox and Orioles feature two lineups capable of producing offense early, making this my favorite YRFI play on the board. Bello has battled inconsistency at times this season, while Rogers has been vulnerable to hard contact. With plenty of power on both sides and two offenses that can score in a hurry, I'm expecting at least one team to break through in the first inning.
