Denver Nuggets vs Portland Trail Blazers Predictions and Picks

Our Pick
The Denver Nuggets were able to squeeze out a victory in Game 4 due to some late-game mistakes by the Blazers. At home, with Lillard’s scoring form, and their backs against the wall, the Trail Blazers are likely to push this to Game 7.

DEN: Backcourt Scoring

While many will think about the Portland Trail Blazers when it comes to scoring in the backcourt, it was Denver’s guards that ensured them the win in Game 5.

The combination of Austin Rivers, Facundo Campazzo, and Monte Morris combined to score 49 of the Denver Nuggets’ 147 points.

Jokic drives the ship, but Denver’s backcourt is doing a great job to support him. If they continue to contribute in the scoring column, the Trail Blazers will have difficulty putting them away.

Nuggets Key Player: (C) Nikola Jokic

As usual, all things for the Denver Nuggets run through Nikola Jokic. His distribution and shot creation for himself and others is almost unmatched in the NBA.

The Serbian center had a bounce-back performance in Game 5, posting 38 points, 11 rebounds, nine assists, and four blocks in 46 minutes of play.

Jokic took 31 shots in Game 5, a positive trend as he is their most dangerous option. His efficiency from all areas on the court is why he can be so individually successful.

POR: Someone Must Support Lillard

The Portland Trail Blazers put in a great effort against the Nuggets, but it won’t ever be enough without the victory.

In key moments in Game 5, neither CJ McCollum, Norman Powell nor Carmelo Anthony were able to back up Lillard when needed. McCollum committed a crucial turnover late in the game, while even Jusuf Nurkic fouled out entirely.

Anthony, McCollum, and Powell shot 35% or less from the field in Game 5. Damian Lillard has shown that he can do it all himself, but he certainly shouldn’t have to.

Trail Blazers Key Player: (G) Damian Lillard

Damian Lillard put on a gargantuan performance for the Trail Blazers in their double-overtime effort against the Denver Nuggets in Game 5.

In 51 minutes of play, Lillard posted 55 points, 10 assists, six rebounds, and three blocks on 70.8% shooting from the field.

Portland’s All-Star point guard is doing all he can to keep the Trail Blazers in this series, at least on the offensive side of the ball. He’ll surely do his share, but his teammates need to support him in clutch moments.
