LAC: Pressure Utah Early

The Jazz are struggling on the offensive side of the ball, choosing to rely on Donovan Mitchell for most offensive sets. As they did in Game 4, the Clippers want to dominate the Jazz from tip.

In the first quarter of Game 4, the LA Clippers outscored the Jazz 30 to 13. Defensively, the Clippers held to Jazz to 6 of 21 shooting from the field and just 1 of 7 from three.

Playing through Leonard and George alone has been effective for LA, but getting their role players going early in order to establish a lead could assure their victory in Game 5.

Clippers Key Player: (F) Marcus Morris

Clippers forward Marcus Morris hasn’t featured heavily for the Clippers in this series, but he showed up in Game 4 to help the Clippers bring the series level.

Morris posted 24 points, six rebounds, and one assist in 34 minutes of play. He was excellent from the three-point line too, converting on 5 of 6 three-point attempts.

When head coach Doc Rivers is able to rely on Morris as a tertiary scorer, it opens up the Clippers’ offence entirely.

UTA: Don’t Get Into A Scoring Battle

The Utah Jazz have struggled over their last two games, likely due to the fact that they haven’t been able to slow down the Clippers offence. They need to get back to their roots, putting forth a strong defensive effort.

Through the regular season the Jazz had the best defence, ranking first in two-point field goal percentage allowed and first in three-point field goals allowed per game (10.9). In their last two losses, the Jazz have allowed the Clippers to shoot 51.8% from the field average 17.0 threes per game.

The Jazz need to get back to what helped them to the best record in the NBA. It’ll be difficult without Mike Conley available, but you can’t say that slowing down the Clippers’ offensive threat is beyond their ability as a collective.

Jazz Key Player: (G) Jordan Clarkson

Reigning Sixth Man of the Year Jordan Clarkson needs to be effective in order for the Jazz to regain control of this Western Conference series.

Clarkson disappointed in his last game, contributing just eight points, five rebounds, and two assists on 3 of 12 shooting from the field.

The Philippines international Clarkson is a scoring ace, but he’s struggled against the length of the Clippers’ wing defenders. Needless to say, he needs to overcome them and support Donovan Mitchell’s scoring efforts.
