New York Knicks vs Memphis Grizzlies Predictions and Picks

The Knicks have been red hot as of late, led by Julius Randle who has averaged more than 30 points per game over that time! While the Grizzlies have been competitive, their youthful inexperience has hurt them in tight games.

NYK: Bench Production

The New York Knicks are facing off with an energetic Memphis Grizzlies team on the tail end of a back-to-back. All things considered, this is a classic “trap game” for the Knicks.

The Knicks started their road trip with a comfortable victory over the Houston Rockets. Their stars carried them, with 76 points between Randle, Barrett, and Rose. On the second night of a back-to-back, they’ll need their role players to help them more.

Immanuel Quickley will be the first name that comes to mind, as he contributed 13 points on five of nine shooting off the bench in their last game. Any relief the Knicks can provide for their stars will be welcome for Tom Thibodeau.

Knicks Key Player: (G) Derrick Rose

Rose is coming off of an excellent game against the Houston Rockets, where he showed flashes of his MVP quality.

In his last game, former NBA Most Valuable Player posted 24 points, six rebounds, and four assists. His +35 rating on the evening was second only to teammate Taj Gibson.

Rose played 31 minutes in his last game, taking over playmaking duties for starter Elfrid Payton. On the second night of a back-to-back, the Knicks will hope Rose can maintain his efficiency.

MEM: A Full 48 Minutes

The Memphis Grizzlies are coming off of a loss to the Orlando Magic. Not only did they fail in what was thought to be a certain victory, but they also gave away the game.

By halftime you thought that the Memphis Grizzlies were in control, especially considering their twenty-point lead with five minutes to go in the third. But they were outscored by 15 in the second half, which sealed their fate.

Their defense against Orlando in the second half was dreadful, allowing 21 field goals and 20 trips to the free-throw line. On paper, the Grizzlies match up decently with the Knicks. But if they can’t carry over their efforts from one half to another it’ll be another disappointing evening.

Grizzlies Key Player: (C) Jonas Valanciunas

The Lithuanian center is having one of the best seasons of his career. He’ll have his hands full in the paint, facing off with the likes of Randle, Noel, and Gibson.

In his last game, Valanciunas posted 11 points, 16 rebounds, and three blocks.

One of the weaker paint-scoring teams in the NBA. Valanciunas will need to defend drives well, on top of closing out on shooters.
