NYK: Maintain Three-Point Defence

When the Knicks face-off with the Lakers, they won’t be matched up against one of the premier three-point shooting teams in the league. Which makes taking that option away imperative to their success.

The Knicks are coming off of a win over the LA Clippers, where they provided a showing on how to win the fourth quarter. In a tight game, the Knicks chose to lock up the three-point line in the fourth, forcing the Clippers into three of 11 shooting from deep.

The Lakers won their last game via a dominating effort from Anthony Davis and support from their role players going 13 of 30 from three. Stopping the Lakers perimeter attack will be key.

Knicks Key Player: (G) Derrick Rose

While Elfrid Payton starts games, Tom Thibodeau clearly relies on Derrick Rose to lead his side for the majority of games.

Rose played 32 minutes off the bench in his last game, posting 25 points, eight assists, and six rebounds.

Head coach Tom Thibodeau clearly relies on Rose’s veteran leadership. But it’s a nice addition that the former NBA Most Valuable Player can still supplement, if not lead, the scoring when needed.

LAL: Aggressive Play Through Davis

When Anthony Davis joined the Los Angeles Lakers, it was an admission by the star man that he couldn’t achieve his goals alone. But after more than a year in Los Angeles, Davis has mostly looked like a secondary player, rather than the star that he once was.

Davis found success as the primary option in his last match though, posting 42 points, 12 rebounds, five assists, three steals, and three blocks in a win over the Suns. Through his efforts, the entire offence opened up for his Laker teammates.

Four players other than Davis contributed double-digit scoring, while the team combined to hit 13 threes on 43.3% shooting. If the Lakers want to win, Davis needs to be aggressive and create opportunities for himself and his teammates.

Lakers Key Player: (C) Andre Drummond

When the Lakers signed Andre Drummond, it was seen as a boon to the Lakers’ defensive and rebounding issues. But Drummond’s inconsistency has marred his early tenure with Los Angeles.

In his last game against the Suns, Drummond posted just six points and ten rebounds in 19 minutes of play. He was two of seven from the floor, far too inefficient for a player that thrives on screen-and-rolls and drop-offs.

The Knicks are a big team, so Drummond must impose himself early. Not just by getting on the glass, but finishing when called upon.
