Temple vs. FAU Prediction: Look for a Dominant Game from Johnell Davis

One of the headlining games in the American Conference on Thursday night features the Temple Owls and FAU Owls from Boca Raton, Florida. FAU and Temple enter this game on entirely different sides of the winning spectrum.

Temple wants to improve in 2025 because 2024 hasn’t been their season. They must bring great recruits to Philadelphia because their current roster is young, inexperienced, and not good enough to win in the American Conference.

FAU has a loaded locker room of talent that went to the Final Four in 2023. They have picked up right where they left off last season, entering Thursday’s game with a 19-5 record.

The Owls are also the 24th-ranked team in the nation and a massive favorite over Temple on Thursday.

Here, we will break down the entire matchup and give our best bets for Temple vs. FAU.

Temple vs FAU Prediction

Temple vs. FAU Betting Odds for Thursday, Feb. 15

Temple is on the road, which doesn’t help their cause against FAU. The Owls have been great against American Conference opponents and have dominated in their home gym.

FAU is listed as a 19.5-point favorite, and -3000 on the moneyline. We expect them to win, but when betting a side, you must look to the spread because of the high-priced moneyline.

If you believe Temple can shock the world, they’re 130-1 on the moneyline, and the total is 147.5. Check out the lines below courtesy of FanDuel Sportsbook.

Teams Spread Moneyline Total
Temple Owls +19.5 (-110) +1300 Over 141.5 (-110)
FAU Owls  -19.5 (-110) -3000 Under 141.5 (-110)

If Temple could upset FAU, it would be one of the biggest shockers of the season. Temple hasn’t looked good in any facet of the game, and this should show for 40 minutes on the road against the 24th-ranked team in the nation.

The visiting Owls are 8-16 and 1-10 in the American Conference. Temple is a young team with no strong leader in any area of the game. Hysier Miller, the team's leading scorer, has been good, but don’t count on him on the road.

Miller averages 15.6 points, 3.7 rebounds, and 4.1 assists per game, but he shoots 34% from the field. He has been even worse on the road, shooting 30.4% from the field.

Miller is the player who gets the ball with the game on the line, and his efficiency hasn’t been close to what it must be for Temple to succeed. The other player to watch for the Owls is Jordan Riley, who has been on the right side of many Miller assists this year.

Riley averages 12.2 points per game and leads the team in rebounds with six per game. Even if Miller and Riley manufacture a herculean effort, it still shouldn’t be enough to cover against Florida Atlantic.

FAU is positioned for another deep tournament run. The Owls and the South Florida Bulls are the two best teams in the American, and it has been clear all season.

Johnell Davis, one of the most physical guards in the country, has led the team to victory all season. He averages 18.6 points per game with 6.8 rebounds.

He has also made nearly 49% of his shots and takes many contested looks. This shows how dominant he has been in 2024, and we don’t expect this to stop against a weak Temple team.

The other player to watch for FAU is Vladislav Goldin. Goldin broke into the national spotlight in the NCAA Tournament last season and continues to improve. The junior from Russia is posting great numbers.

Goldin averages 14.2 points and 6.9 rebounds per game. Temple doesn’t have a single player to stop Goldin in the paint, so look for him to be trouble all night.

Temple vs. FAU Prediction and Betting Pick

According to the ESPN matchup predictor, FAU has a 97.5% chance to win on Thursday night. We’re aligned with this prediction, but they need to win by 20 for us to clear the spread.

This may seem surprising, but we’re going against FAU for the points. Temple has no offense to compete with FAU, but they’re playing well in the backcourt.

Both teams have similar defensive statistics, which should keep this game within the 19.5 points on FanDuel Sportsbook. FAU is 5-5 ATS at home, while Temple is 5-3 ATS on the road, so look for them to find a way to cover on Thursday.
