FanDuel currently lists the 49ers as slight favorites to win the Super Bowl. From top to bottom, San Francisco surely has the better roster and a more dynamic set of offensive playmakers. But the 49ers haven’t been at their best lately. They needed a late comeback to beat the Packers in the Division Round and were completely outplayed in the first half of the NFC Championship Game.

Looking back even further, the 49ers are just 2-5 against the spread in their last seven games. To be fair, San Francisco went 4-0 against the spread this season when favored by 3.5 points or less. But the 49ers are facing their biggest test of the season.

Somewhat predictably, Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs have found another gear since the playoffs began. They dominated the Dolphins before winning road games against the Bills and Ravens. Defensively, Kansas City has been up to the task against quality opponents while Mahomes has come through when needed in the clutch.

Mahomes looks poised to carry the Chiefs to yet another Super Bowl. He figures to get help from a strong Kansas City defense, which could cause problems for Brock Purdy, who has been erratic at times during the playoffs. The Chiefs have no such concerns with Mahomes, which makes Kansas City a great pick for Super Bowl LVIII.
