On Friday, the Miami Dolphins will travel to East Rutherford, New Jersey, to battle the New York Jets. Tim Boyle will start for the Jets following Robert Saleh demoting Zach Wilson to third string. Let’s break down the game from a betting perspective and discuss some of the best sports betting promos you can find in New York!
Team | Spread | Moneyline | Total |
---|---|---|---|
Miami Dolphins | -9.5 (-110) | -500 | Over 41 (-110) |
New York Jets | +9.5 (-110) | +385 | Under 41 (-110) |
The New York Jets have uncertainty coming into Friday’s game against the Dolphins. Boyle will be under center, and nobody anticipated this at the beginning of the season.
Aaron Rodgers suffered a torn Achilles tendon at the beginning of the season, which thrust Zach Wilson into the spotlight. It was clear Wilson wasn’t ready for the moment. He showed signs of life and was better than last season, but it wasn’t enough for Saleh to give him the nod for another week.
Just because Wilson was benched doesn’t mean Boyle is the better option. It shows the team is ready to move on from the quarterback in the offseason. Boyle has played in 18 games in five seasons and has three times the number of interceptions as touchdowns.
The Dolphins don’t have the best passing defense in the NFL, but Boyle hasn’t shown the ability to pick apart any defense he has faced in the NFL. The quarterback threw his first pass of 2023 on Sunday and was 7 of 14 for 33 yards with an interception against the Bills.
Miami at -9.5 seems like the favorable side in this game, but the line hasn’t moved. This is surprising, considering Boyle is the quarterback. The lack of line movement keeps us from a side and looking to the prop market.
This may seem counterintuitive, but we will bet on Boyle in this spot. We like the over on his passing yards at 165.5. Bookmakers are looking down on the quarterback in this spot.
We don’t expect Boyle to light up the scoreboard, but he will be in constant passing situations. Miami will score points, and they should also stop New York’s rushing attack. Breece Hall hasn’t been effective as of late because teams will be loading up the box.
The Dolphins will force Boyle to beat them vertically down the field. He should surpass this total by bulk alone because of how meager the line is set on Friday. We expect this line to rise as the game gets closer.
For Boyle to go over, it will take a solid receiving performance from his entire arsenal of weapons. Look for Hall to be active in catching passes out of the backfield, especially if the Dolphins limit him on the ground!
